BIO
Dour Cursiva is a metal band with hardcore roots from Providence, Rhode Island that takes aim at blending many influences, moods, and styles while attempting to maintain a wavelength compositional approach embracing a mixed bag of melodies, dissonances, polyrhythms, and drones. Deriving their name from the English word dour, meaning severe or harsh, and the Latin word cursiva, meaning written script, the band explores some of the more traumatic elements of the human experience in their writing. The band consists of a core of musicians who have been playing both together and separately in a wide range of bands for the past eight years and strive to blend all influences, ideas, and talents into one coherent, in-depth musical experience.
Dour Cursiva has been playing shows since the spring of 2005, and has shared the stage with an array of amazing bands including Psyopus (Blackmarket/Metal Blade), Folly (Triple Crown), Killwhitneydead (Tribunal), Vanna (Epitaph), It Dies Today (Trustkill), Underminded (Uprising), Haste the Day (Solid State), Ligeia (Ferret), One Dead Three Wounded (1x1 Music), The Banner (Ferret), and many more.
After more than two years of writing together, playing shows across the northeast, and releasing various demo tracks, Dour Cursiva recently finished up recording their debut full length album entitled ‘Voices Through Wires’ at Echo Room Productions in Uxbridge, Massachusetts in the spring of 2007. The album features eight songs encompassing the band’s two year career, showcasing a wide range of influences and experiences. The band is currently seeking an active and inspired label for the pressing and distribution of their full length as well as help with booking and promotion.
