T.O.Y.

Still Alive ... !!!

About Me

At the moment electro-pop is musically in vogue, the next "big thing". Wolfsheim, for example, made it to the top of the charts with their latest single "Kein Zurueck". They have managed to compete with international acts like Pink and Robbie Williams, a success which opens doors for bands with a similar sound. T.O.Y. are one of the bands who will ride on the crest of the wave of this success.
Volker Lutz (vocals, programming, production) and Oliver Taranczewski (lyrics, keyboards) know how to create and produce groovy pop songs, and the new album "white lights" contains the newest of these songs. "fly away" is a modern up-tempo song in the usual T.O.Y. style that is familiar to listeners of the album "spaceradio". Similar to this, "fairytale" and "two souls" resound with pure positive energy, while the title track "white lights" is a melodic and dramatic pop ballad, a song that is both dreamy and catchy. But T.O.Y. also create dance tracks such as the up-beat "Another Lovesong", a trance-like track, and they also provide us with really tricky breakbeat tracks like "inner cinema", the instrumental track "the liquid circle" and the retro-style track "long-distance ride". The latter is a mixture of both the eighties sound and a haujobb song. As you can see, "White Lights" is a very diverse album, and the result enhances the reputation of T.O.Y as purveyors of fine synthpop.
Besides the new album, T.O.Y. have produced many remixes for other bands like Apoptygma Berzerk, In Strict Confidence, De/Vision and !Bang Elektronika. Volker has also undertaken many album productions in his SonicStage Recording Studios. He has worked with bands like And One, L..aime Immortelle, Funker Vogt and Pulcher Femina.
During the sessions for the T.O.Y. remix of the De/Vision track "Drifting Sideways", the song "the sky is the limit" was born. De/Vision singer Steffen Keth agreed to perform as guest vocalist on this song, the result of which can also be found on the new "white lights" album. Since their European Tour in 2001, De/Vision and T.O.Y. have shared in many musical projects.
After "spaceradio" in 2001, "white lights" is the second pure synthpop album from T.O.Y. and again they have managed to develop and enhance their style in order to create one of the best synthpop records of 2003!
