OKOYE

Introducing....Afro Soul!

About Me

Okoye was born in Anambra State, Nigeria-West Africa. His musical endeavors began at a tender age, nurtured by his involvement in a children's choir at his local church. Continuing into high school, he joined a choir/choral group discovering that music was an integral part of his existence. At this young age he embraced the element of spirituality that comes from singing and learned that music helped him to cope and deal with life..s challenges. Okoye embraced this element of spirituality early on in life. Okoye continued on his path performing with various groups thru high school and earned the prestigious title of the school choir/choral Group Prefect. This award was given for character, talent and dedication to the choir and to the rest of the student body. After high school, Okoye gained admission into the highly esteemed University of Jos, Nigeria to study Medicine. From childhood, his second great passion had been to become a medical doctor and nurture his desire to serve. His passion for providing service is evident in his statement, "Life is all about giving, touching and making a positive difference in peoples lives". As a result of this earnest desire to make a difference, he and a few colleagues teamed up to form a Christian Organization know as FRONTLINE INC- an organization dedicated to raising money for the welfare of the needy, motherless, handicapped and the less privileged in Africa. While in college, Okoye continued to perform in local music functions including weddings, church events, and other various showcases. He later joined and headed a Christian Praise Group called "The Trinity Singers". It was in the late 90's that Okoye moved from Nigeria to the United States to continue with his studies. It did not take Okoye much time to realize that his true calling was in music and acting as he expresses in his very touchy ballad "Nothing is Impossible". He stayed focused on his music and earned a degree in Commercial Music Management (CMM). While in college, Okoye was a lead vocalist in a Jazz ensemble and continued to perform. His debut album titled "The Wave Of Change" is a combination of smooth R&B,Gospel, Jazz and elements of Afro Soul mixed with World beats. In his soulful voice, Okoye expresses himself, his experiences, struggles, love life, spirituality and beliefs. The project "The Wave of Change" is not a mainstream commercial sound with optimum quality vocals and sound production. With this release Okoye is most concerned with telling his story, to reflect how he dealt with situations in his life. His hope is that the message can be an inspiration to someone who might be going through similar situations. "I told my story the best way that I could at that point in time", Okoye has stated. Okoye inspires and encourages us to believe in oneself and to live at our very best and pursue our innermost desires. In listening to this album, you will discover the identity of this singer, songwriter and producer. To Okoye, "writing music and singing is a way of life....the only way he knows best to express himself and cope with life's obstacles.
