Little children forget how to dream, and everyday you are faced with the undeniable truth that you are barely surviving. Faced with numerous frustrating situations, young DeAngelo Cooley (D. Cooley) turned to the only survival instincts he knew, trapping and hustling. Wise enough to know that a life in the streets will only result to death or incarceration, D. Cooley decided to make perfecting his music his number one priority. I was just hustling and going through the struggle. I couldnt keep doing dirt, I had to do something to get some legit paper, D. Cooley explains.
Already receiving local acclaim for his distinct delivery and unique sound, D. Cooley would have a talk with D. Scott, Chief Executive Officer of Down South Affiliated (D.S.A.) Records, that would change the course of his music career. Placing a winning strategy behind hot music, Life As A Hustler, D. Cooleys first album became a movement. Im just trying to represent my city how its supposed to be represented, says D. Cooley. Coming from Chattanooga, TN, which is home to such soulful artists as Usher, Samuel L. Jackson, and the Empress of the Blues, Bessie Smith, D. Cooley has his work cut out for him.
His first single, Trap Clothes, featuring Maceo from the Atlanta, GA. based Big Cat Records, is receiving radio spins in numerous markets across the nation. D. Cooley is also set to burn up the mix tape scene with The Movement, hosted by DJ Wally Sparks of the World Famous Superfriends/ Violator All Star DJs. Receiving the stamp of approval from respected DJs like DJ Drama, Dutty Laundry, and Greg Street, Trap Clothes is banging in clubs throughout Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Life As a Hustler also features the club anthem Get Buck featuring Trillville. D. Cooley has also worked with Tennessee rap legend Kingpin Skinny Pimp, Black Folk, Inc., Q Ball, and Texas artists Mr. Lucci and Mr. Pookie.
D. Cooley continues to pay his dues, traveling state to state with his street team to DJ Record Pool meetings, like TJs DJs Taste Makers in Tallahassee, FL where industry icon Wendy Day spoke from the panel commending D. Cooley for his promotional efforts. Performing on concert rosters across the Southeast with artists like Young Jeezy, Young Buck, Trina, Trillville, DJ Drama, Gangsta Boo, Lil Flip, and Yo Gotti has undoubtedly helped to present this emerging star to broader audiences.
Take one listen and youll understand why D. Cooleys Life As A Hustler is one of the most highly anticipated CDs coming out of the South!
