I'M A SURVIVOR

About Me

I am a 5 year breast cancer survivor. I am the youngest of 3 kids. I have one brother and one sister...I'm the baby! I LOVE to travel. I am an army brat and we traveled a lot growing up. Since I have been out on my own, I try to travel as much as I can afford. I have cruised the virgin islands, been to Hawaii twice (Oahu, twice and Maui once) I have been to St. Thomas, Puerto Rico and the Bahamas. I can't express it enough that I LOVE to travel. I want to see the world. I am married to a wonderful man named Ted. He works his tail off so that I can go to school full time and only work a couple of days a week. We have two teenage boys. His son and my son. We tried to have a child together but miscarried at 2 months. Not long after that I was diagnosed with breast cancer and our hope for a child together ended. Ted is my rock and my pillar. He was there for me through all of my surgeries and my chemo treatments. Even when I was bald and enduring mouth sores, he still made me feel like the most beautiful woman in the world. I am so proud of him. This year he dedicated his life to the lord. My illness and the kindness of my church family were testimonies for Ted. I am so happy that now he can experience life as a christian. Ted has custody of his son, so I am the only female in a house full of males....our dog is even a male. I guess you could say I am spoiled and very lucky, because they all treat me as if I am a queen. My dog scooter follows me everywhere I go and cries when I leave the house. My son thinks he has to protect me and dotes over me, I know he is worried because he almost lost me. He is already out of high school and dealing with work issues in the real world. He is planning to start trade school soon. My stepson is more like me than my own son. We have a lot of the same traits...sense of humor, sensitivity, love for sweets, just to name a few. We cut up and have a lot of fun together. He tells me he thinks I am a genius because I have a 3.5 gpa in college. He is very smart and he has already started looking at colleges to attend once he gets out of high school. My prayer is that I can influence both my boys in a positive way by my actions and my morals. I am a very lucky woman to have so many men in my life who love me. I am planning to blog my cancer story so please look for it and read it when I have finished. Also, I will be posting more family pictures....especially our vacation photos. We just came back from a week at the beach to celebrate my 5 year cancer free anniversary (and my birthday). Thanks for taking the time to visit my page and getting to know me. So many people don't know ... that I am really a sensitive person and I don't always show it when I hurt. Also, that I am really, really shy. (for some reason people laugh when I tell them that)
I am ... a SURVIVOR!!!!
My heart is ... full. It is full of love, and compassion for everyone. And it is full of love for Jesus Christ my lord and saviour.
Pet Peeves ... Self centered people who think they are better than everyone else. People who don't care about anyone else's feelings but their own and they don't care who they hurt. Also, I can't stand being ignored.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

You are now marked on my visitor map!

Create your own visitor map!

Music:

I love all types of music...country, christian, gospel, oldies, rock, jazz, r&b, reggae, pretty much any type of music. With the exception of rap. I could listen to music all day, it touches my heart and lifts my spirit.

Movies:

I like all movies except for scary movies. I used to like them when I was younger, but I guess as I got older, I lost interest in them. Some of my favorite movies...Beaches, Pretty Woman, Fried Green Tomatoes, Driving Ms. Daisy, Breakfast Club, any of the Vacation movies with Chevy Chase, Stripes, I like anything with John Candy. Favorite Christmas movie...It's a Wonderful Life. These are just a few....the list goes on and on!!

Television:

I am a reality tv junkie. Survivor, The Amazing Race, Fear Factor, Beauty and the Geek. Any of the quiz shows like Who wants to be a millionaire or 1 vs 100, anything that will test my knowledge. Drama...Grey's Anatomy, CSI, Medium. I don't watch any soaps although, I guess you could easily consider Grey's Anatomy a nighttime soap. I DVR a lot of shows, so that I don't miss any episodes. Oh, I hate to admit it, but I do like Family Guy.

Books:

Nicholas Sparks, John Grisham, Stephen King, Jude Deveraux (especially her book, "A Knight in Shining Armor"), Bridges of Madison County (I have never cried so hard reading any other book). I like to read any of Oprah's picks, they are always good. I like all of the Chicken Soup books, Guidepost. I love to read. I could read all day. I have had up to 4 books going at one time and could pick any one of them up and know where I left off in the story. I love cookbooks, I sort of collect them. I don't know why, other than because I love to cook and like to experiment with new recipes. Also, I try to study my bible every day. Some days it is hard to find the time, but I make time, even if it is just for one or two verses.

Heroes:

My father for his service to this country. He served 23 years in the army and retired a Command Sargeant Major. He fought in the Vietnam war and received numerous medals, including a medal of honor and a purple heart. By the time he retired, he had stripes up both sleeves and a chest full of medals. He has always been there for me. I never realized how much he loved me until I went through Cancer. He stayed at the hospital with me every night that I was there. I was in the hospital for a week and he only went home to shower and eat. My other hero is my brother. He is such a wonderful father. He has four kids and his children are his world. He coaches their football, their baseball, and takes time out to sit on the porch to look up at the stars with them. He works around the clock just to make sure his wife can stay home and be there for the kids. Even though he went through cancer himself a couple of years ago, he cherishes every moment with his children. His daughter is going to have a hard time finding a man who will even begin to compare to her father. My mother for battling breast cancer 27 years ago before all this modern technology, when reconstruction wasn't even an option, and living to tell about it...she is a survivor. Last but certainly not least, my wonderful husband Ted. He stood by me through all of my surgeries and my chemo. He was the one at home with the boys, getting them to school and then up to the hospital after school and home to bed to get ready for the next day at school. Through all of this, surgery and chemo he still made me feel beautiful...even when I was bald. That, my friend, is TRUE LOVE!!!..
