Gein Wong is a poet and electronic musician who throws emotion and power through the mic. Her works focus on how viewpoints and perspectives can change one's memories and views on issues. Obvious things like gender class and race....as well as things a little less obvious, like gender, class and race. Her words and music have been heard across Canada, as well as internationally in England, the Caribbean, and the United States. Her songs are a warm and distinctive blend of East Asian acoustic instruments and electronic brushed beats. She was a founding member of the Asian women spoken word group maewon and currently is the resident music composer and story writer for the Little Pear Garden Dance Company where modern dance meets urban/electronic beats and classical Chinese dance and instruments. Gein also collaborates with Heidi Chan (Kiyoshi Nagata Taiko Ensemble and former member of the Cliks). Together they form the core duo of the Fusilli Project, a new multidisciplinary performance group that intermingles traditional asian music, electronica, dance and visual arts. The Fusilli Projects seeks to reinvent the concept of performance in electronic music and create a synergistic, unpredictable and spontaneous live theatre experience. Currently Gein resides in Toronto where she runs the Asian Arts Freedom School .
