Medina, Ohio-based Two Sticks and a Stone was started in 2001 by four desperately bored kids with a drum pad, a sorry excuse for a guitar, an out-of-tune bass and a voice that sounded more like an plethora of people falling from the sky who, honestly, had know idea what they were doing.
The thought-provoking lyrics, the upward spiral of their musicianship and their overall maturity as a band, however, keeps increasing as time goes on.
In the beginning when deciding the band name, a few interesting titles were available:
1. Two Sticks and a Stone,
2. Pink Penguin 123 and
3. Speakerphone
They all (except Ben) could imagine the utter failure that would occur if either of the last two took place on the front of their CD cover, so the name “Two Sticks and a Stone" was chosen.
The name, interestingly enough, represents Salvation: something so complex, is so simple. All the earthly ingredients needed for salvation is: Two Sticks (think of the cross) and a Stone (the stone that rolled away).
Joe Griffith sums it up when he said, “We want to present the problem. But unlike other bands, we also want to present a solution.â€
