About Me

Well, what to say? Here I am. An Englishman in Huizhou. That's Southern China for my overseas readers.I'm 28 years old. Or, at least, if I'm not then you know that I don't update this very often.I like cricket and shooting and pints of ale. I like rowing down the river on lazy summer afternoons. There's not much more to me than that. I like all sorts of music but am not an avid follower of any group or sound. I don't like football. I prefer cats to dogs.

My Interests

cricket, rugby, polo, shooting, real ale

I'd like to meet:

Anyone and everyone. I get on well with just about everyone so I love to meet new people - it doesn't matter who. Wierd or ordinary. Studious or adventurous. Whatever.I appreciate people who are happy. Who are confident in themselves. They may be fiercely ambitious or entirely content with life, but they should above all be able to grin broadly at the world.

Music:

Argh! My taste in music is dreadful. I like this and that. Pop, rock, metal, classical, rag time, blues, jazz, experimental. I don't follow any one band or artist but just pick up on something that I like.

Television:

Crying Out Love in the Centre of the World - the best melodrama ever. Had me crying every episode. I just wish I could find it with English subtitles like it had when it was broadcast in Hong Kong.

I'm sure there is more to come - later

In a way, my self-confidence this last year has been in no small part attributable to his influence. He came to China when I did; the first of a new wave completely reforming the school. But more than...

It's all fun and games - until someone gets hurt...

Primary school, grade 4. A kid in my class playing with something. Showing it to his friend who holds it to her ear. Let me have a look. Huh? That's a LIVE ROUND OF AMMO you've got there, kiddo. I'm a...

A Yan - Lost Forever?

I can't believe she's gone. To Shenzhen. It's not a million miles away but it might as well be if I don't know where she is in such a big city. I will never smile again if I cannot see her smile. I ...

Guangzhou - what a shock

So here's the thing, as a westerner in Huizhou I'm not unique but am rather unusual. And I like that. I'm really in China; living amongst Chinese people who can't speak English and who have probably n...
