Frocks that Rock!

About Me

I started Hot Couture a few years ago, it all came about because of my love of 40's and 50's fashion mostly 50's. In my twenties my friend Gayle and I were the only ones dressing up in 50's style clothing. We would scour all the vintage shops and buy up big, the prices were really cheap back then. We could have opened our own Vintage shop but we just couldn't part with any of our things. I worked on a mini series about Johnny O'Keefe years back and they lost all of the evening frocks for the social event. Much to the wardrobe mistresses relief I was able to outfit every single girl including all the extras. Even the jewellery. The leading lady is wearing my favourite grey tulle with diamantes evening frock. So the years went by and I married Deane Taylor....he's an art Director and is well known for Nightmare before Christmas, Ren and Stimpy, the wonderful Cow and Chicken. ect ect. We have three kids Gypsy Taylor who is 30 this year. She graduated Nida and went on to do fabulous films including Chronicles of Narnia and Australia. Gypsy recently had her own Art Show where she did very well. My son Eddy is 21 this year and he is working in film as well, he's in the model making dept and is on his third feature film, Wolverine. Ginger is 18 this year and she is working with me at Hot Couture she is my gorgeous youngest model. So the kids are 18,21 and 30 this year and Gypsy tells me there will be a huge party at Luna Park. Can't wait for that one. So that's about it for me onto Hot Couture. I decided in my 50's to sell all my old frocks and bolero's, coats and jewellery ( what was I thinking ) Anyway I had a stall at the 50's fair in Sydney and did pretty well. I have been back every year with reproduction frocks of my own. My friend Jen opened a shop called Polkadot and I made a lot of frocks for her. Gypsy designed my business card for Hot Couture, I went on myspace and it just took off ( I LOVE MYSPACE ). I think Hot Coutures success is a combination of things. The name and logo are a huge part but the garments are all Australian made and I just love all the designs. They are really feminine and sexy. They suit the bigger more buxom girls as well as smaller ones, There is something for everyone. The BIG plus is they never date...hehe! So in a nutshell that is the how and why of how I started. I have previously had a costume hire shop and a kids line of clothing but my real love has always and will always be 50's fashion. The tulle and rope petticoats, suspenders, seam stockings, rocket bras and silk knickers. The gorgeous full skirted frocks with angora cardigans and stillettos, pointy shiny stilletto's. I ask you is there anything sexier than that.
