Past and future Presidents and there glorious outcomes, and first Lady's too. In the case of First Lady Abigail Fillmore reading was very important. She treasured books and was frightfully shocked to find no library in the White House. She convinced Congress to give her $250 dollars (at that time a large sum of moola) so she could buy books for the mansion.
I'd like to meet:
Theodore Roosevelt! "The Rough Rider" aka" Teddy" In 1902, Theodore Roosevelt, nick named Teddy, went on a bear hunt in Mississippi. The only bear he found was a cub, and he refused to shoot it. A newspaper ran a cartoon about this. Then a toy maker in Brooklyn put the cartoon next to a stuffed bear, calling it "Teddy's Bear." And thus the teddy bear was born.
Music:
Bye Bye miss American pie, or better yet, BUY! BUY! miss american pie. Yes we all have a problem with spending, but one President made a real good deal, Louisiana Purchase ring any bells? Yes! Thomas Jefferson. In 1803 T.J. bought the Louisiana Purchase from his lil buddy (Napoleon) for about $15 million, only three cents an acre. Buying that land almost doubled the size of our country. in 1804 T.J. sent his secretary Meriwether Lewis (from Lewis and Clark fame) to lead an exploration of the west. They made maps and collected plants and animals (dead and alive). They sent Jefferson a prairie chicken, prairie dog, and four magpies, as well as fossils.
Movies:
J.F.K, Conspiracies is what its all about saith "jr" senator McCarthy. Kennedy and Camelot is intriguing to "P" J.F.K did a lot in his time, to name a few He created the Peace Corps (and i dont mean like Al Gore creating the internet) get this a place where Americans could help people outside the United States. Many people, some strait out of collage, traveled to other countries and volunteered to help people improve their living conditions. The Peace Corps helped many nations build hospitals, set up schools, and learn better farming practices. Next up Man on the Moon, Kennedy vowed to win the space race with now our freinds the Soviet Union. In office only a short time, he promised to "safely" land a man on the moon before the decade was out. The United States "safely" landed two men on the moon in 1969 thus double fulfiling Kennedys American dream.
Television:
The Moon landing. one of the most exciting events of a kids life time happened during Nixons first term in office. On july 29th 1969 Kennnedys dream was fulfilled. American astronauts landed on the moon. Upon leaving the first footprints on the lunar surface Neil Armstrong exclaimed "WHOOPS I TRIPPED"... No just kidding we all know he said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." From the white house that evening (after a few drinks) Nixon and Elvis gave the astronauts a call on his new cellular. (comments on drinking, Elvis, and the cellular are purely fictional.)
Books:
Chicago Daily Tribune, the day Dewey Defeats Truman! I just love when someone goes out on the edge... and then falls off. Truman worked hard during his reelection campaign (just like ptheclown & bastille too) traveling across the country and making more than 345 speeches +. Some people didn't think he would win and one news paper printed its headline before the results were in. Of course Truman gleefully shows off the blunder.
Heroes:
HOBO "P" for giving it his all in reporting on the hooverville incident (circa 1930) he recalls that people blamed Hoover for the Great Depression. They used his name to describe many things linked to the bad times. People used to call groups of shacks where people lived "Hoovervilles." They called newspapers that people used to keep warm "Hoover blankets." And they called wild jackrabbits that they caught for food "Hoover hogs." And as Hobo p reports when they had enough money to buy a broom and clean they called it a "Hoover vacuum."
