On May 3rd 1980, during a tropical hurrican in the South Pacific. Prithipal Singh (Pacifik) was born @ the crack off sunrise in Latouka Fiji. He was raised in a Punjabi family but was very versitile in communicating by speaking 3 diffrent languages by age 7. (Punjabi,Hindi,English)
At eight years old, Pacifik's family moved to Toronto Canada in hopes of finding a better life. "I was happy but sad because my older brother didn't come with us. He was adopted and sponsered by my grandparents 2 years earlier. When he was 14. He went to live in Sac, California." But that didn't stop young Prithipal Singh who was later given the nickname Paul, from grasping the English language and adapting to the cold streets of Malton, Mississauga. A small highly Multicultural populated town located minutes from the Toronto Airport. "Our first place was a one bedroom cold ass basement. Malton got some basements man. Haha. A lotta people say Maltons a ghetto. Ya it might be, but to me it's just home", Said the proud rapper smiling.
From being a paperboy to lanscaping, Pacifik started building a need for money to buy the things he wanted so his parents wouldn't have to struggle to purchase them. "I always had a job from as far back as I can remember, always on the grind man." laughed Pacifik.
en I got to high school, I hated going to class. So I started skipping regularly. There was only one class I didn't skip and that was gym. I didn't go for the recreaction. I went to freestyle. A lotta guys use to sit out for not bringing there gym clothes and we would gather around and spit. It was there that I got my confidence to start writting. By grade 10, I had dropped out and started worken full time and kept written and freestylin as a hobbie."
After working for a about a year, Pacifik went to California to visit his brother and ended up spending a year there working along side him. Despite experiencing the time of his life in Cali, P packed up his bags and came back to Malton. "I came back for my mom, I knew she didn't want to have two sons so far away from her. And also for my younger brother who was still learning the ropes of the street. It's hard out here man, every kid should have a big brother." said the rapper.
Only 17 @ this point, Pacifik bought himself a fat ride with his hard earned money that he had made in Cali. He tried to take another run at high school but after a semester he ended up getting a restraining order delivered to his house by the Police. "I told the principle to suck my dick." said Pacifik. With not too many choices after that, P started working again. This time he had two jobs. Woking full time in a Car parts factory and slangin on the side. "I just did that for a while, just to save some money for my car insurance. It wasn't really my thing though" explained the young Indian.
Changing from job to job, Pacifik was always close with his friends. Blazing in parking lots or havin a good time at the clubs. Pacifik was always the more quite one out of his crew but when it came down to rumbling, he was right in the front line ready to strike. "Man! We use to get into some shit boy." chuckled the MC. All the trouble finally caught up with Pacifik one day outside a Brampton niteclub when P and his crew were arrested for a disturbace in the parking lot. "They fucking arrested 4 guys all from our side and no guys that we were beefen wit. Racist ass Police. Believe that shit? And then on top of it all, I got charged wit Assaulting a P.O. Fucking Bullshit!" complained Pacifik. At 20 years old and getting a conditional discharge with probation, Pacifik started spending more time at home writing rhymes.
On a cold December night returning from work, Pacifik's life flashed before his eyes when his car slid off a side road and slammed into a tree. Not wearing his seat belt, he was throwen out the front windsheild with his foot trapped under the clutch. "I was unconcious for about four hours before I was found. I had a fractured spine and later went to ICU for a collapsed lung from the impact of the steering wheel against my chest. I was pretty banged up man." claimed Pacifik. But that didn't stop 21 year old Prithipal from bouncing back on his feet after a quick amazing recovery. With a lot of free time, he got more serious with written rhymes.
At 22 he recorded his first track title Punga. It was frequently played at Indian jams all over Toronto by local Dj's. The people were loving it. That inspired him to make an album. In and out of various studios, P finally released his first indie cd titled "Ghetto Immigrant". He sold about 900 copies and was creating a buzz all over the Indian North American Hip Hop scene. Many of the tracks from the album were featured on dozens of Mixtapes across the continent and the UK.
Now at the Age of 25, Pacifik has just opened up his own studio "HOLDING CELL STUDIO's" and is promoting his Newest Album, "MALTON INDIAN" Check out the site for more INFO.
