I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm just a guy who tends to think of himself as leading a normal life in which extraordinay events continue happening.

Being outside is important -- if it's strolling along at the beach, window shopping in San Francisco, or going on a backpacking trip -- the outdoors are a wonder and if you want to see great vistas you have to get out there to do it. I have three major hobbies -- rock climbing, bicycling (road and mtn) and making music.

My Interests

My main interests would have to be rock climbing (all varieties), bicycling and composing/performing music. Other interests include reading, going on adventures, learning new (sometimes useless) ideas, hiking, camping, and exploring new areas.

I'd like to meet:

Music:

My music selection is as broad as anyones I've ever met. While in High School I took a class on Art & Music History. In the class we read the best definition of music I've ever discovered. Music is the organization of sound and silence. This changed my listening habits drastically -- this means I enjoy everything from classical to baroque to heavy metal to rap to folk to goth to 80's cheese rock.

For a listing of what I (might) be currently listening to check out my Audioscrobbler page at http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/dddorq/.

Movies:

I must admit that I haven't been to see many movies recently. I will have to list movies that I enjoy watching over and over and over (I'm not saying they are great movies -- I just enjoy 'em!)... Fifth Element, Princess Bride, Hackers, Sixteen Candles, Indiana Jones Trilogy and so many more!

Television:

I do not own a teevee -- my source of television shows is from torrent sites. That means that if you mention a commercial you saw that was funny -- chances are that I will have no idea what commercial you are talking about. Current weekly "must sees" would include, Scrubs, Charmed, Heroes, and a few others. I think thats about it for the weekly regular network shows. I also watch several programs on Discovery Channel and TLC. And I can put on any episode of Northern Exposure, My So Called Life, or Coupling and be completely happy.

Books:

I own way too many books. It runs in the family -- reading the printed word. Recent books that I have enjoyed? Anything by Neal Stephenson, Angels and Daemons and the daVinci Code, and anything by Isabel Allende.

Favorite books of all time? The Neverending Story, Atlas Shrugged, This Time of Darkness, Ringworld, The Chronicles of Narnia.

Heroes:

I had some great teachers in high school and in the middle school. There are 4 that I still keep in touch with on a regular basis that probably shaped who I am today. My music teacher from High School, my outdoor education teacher from high school, my social studies teacher from middle school and my science teacher from middle school. These 4 people are all heroes in their passion for teaching and helping shape young minds.

A Christmas Show with the MProvz

I finally have a huge appreciation for music directors who have to put on an entire show.  So many things to do and so many little worries.  Our a cappella group sang at the coffee shop I wo...

Life in the Real World

Living in Yosemite spoiled me.  I learned (or un-learned) to enjoy taking life slower.  Enjoying the seasons as they slowly ran headlong into each other in an eternal game of chicken.I learn...

Pics from Yosemite

Well I've been living here in Yosemite now for a couple of months and finally we have had some great weather. Not that the snow and rain wasn't interesting -- just hard to live/work in. But here are...

Trees in a Meadow

Every day as I walk to work I pass by a meadow. It's a beautiful meadow with lots of tall grass and, in the spring, tons of amazing flowers. On the left is the Church Bowl picnicking and climbing ar...

A Night

I walk through the darkness. Looking up at the cloudy starless night I can feel the imense weight of the granite cliffs that surround me even though I can't see them. The snow crunches under foot as...
