Firstly I hate talking about myself but this has been blank for far too long.
My name is David and I am the bass player and leader of a band called Apparition.
It all started as a project in 1997 but when I met a young girl called Jen in 2004 it became a band. We hooked up with drummer Paul from an old band I had played in called Asphyxiator and were later joined by Rich on guitar and singer Annabelle.
We wrote some songs and recorded them in 2005. Casket records were interested and we signed with them in early 2006. We formed a band myspace and showcased some of our songs on there.
Casket released our album called ‘Drowned in questions’ in April 2006 to mixed reviews. There was a lot of internet reviews saying dead bitchy and irrelevant stuff about us. At that time I felt that Jen was losing interest in the band as she wouldn’t return my calls or messages. That and the reviews I wanted to Quit myself but we kept getting messages from a myspace friend telling us how much she liked our music and how much she wanted to see us live so that seemed to counteract the reviews and I decided to carry on
I spoke to keyboardist Ian about joining us if Jen were to leave. My idea was to have two of them so we could create something different and have a bigger sound.
Thinking that Annabelle would be going to University next year I asked Fiona to sing for us.
Jen left us in the summer which I didn’t want but she said some very hurtful things about me. I saw and treated her like a sister and I feel bad it had to end the way it has.
Now we are a six piece band with two lead singers and hopefully Annie can fit us in with Uni when she goes next year. We are currently writing songs for a new album.
I didn’t know that there were any female fronted metal bands two years ago
Apart from Nightwish and Lacuna Coil and I didn’t know there was a scene which Apparition is apparently part of.
Now I know!
And now I know what is expected of us!
And now I know what my band mates like in there music.
And now I know that I am a better song writer because I am learning all the time.
And now I know that we will create something very special next time
A lot of our friends and ‘fan’ base are teenagers and especially girls so I believe we should act as role models and encourage them to be positive and not dwell on things and ignore the fashion of self harm.
