YOU CAN'T CHANGE THE PAST BUT YOU CAN INFLUENCE THE FUTURE

About Me

I am a feature writer with The Sun. In 2005 I walked from Hyde Park to Edinburgh for Live 8. This site was set up to support my 2006 walk from Wapping to Germany for the World Cup. I set off on Wednesday April 5, which gave me 66 days (memories of '66!) to get to Frankfurt for England's opening game against Paraguay on June 10. My TOP FRIENDS feature is randomised.Myspace Backgrounds

My Interests

Chess, walking, history, playing soccer (preferably in goal), supporting Wolves, baseball, American college football.

I'd like to meet:

You?

Music:

1950s rock 'n' roll, much 1960s, Donovan, T Rex, David Bowie and the best from most eras.

Movies:

The Godfather, Casablanca, Little Women (1949), Goodfellas, Dr. Strangelove, Psycho, Citizen Kane, Bridget Jones's Diary, North By Northwest, Psycho, Lawrence Of Arabia, It's A Wonderful Life, The Matrix, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Third Man, Monty Python And The Holy Grail, The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre, The Bridge On The River Kwai, A Clockwork Orange, L.A. Confidential, The Maltese Falcon, Saving Private Ryan, Some Like It Hot, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Forrest Gump, Citizen Kane, Jaws, The Sting, Terminator, Strangers On A Train, The Wizard Of Oz, Groundhog Day, Full Metal Jacket, High Noon, The Big Sleep, Once Upon A Time In America, Cool Hand Luke, Back To The Future, Total Recall, Platoon, Cabaret, Gone With The Wind, Toy Story, Shrek, The Big Lebowski, Twelve Monkeys, The Lady Vanishes, In The Heat Of The Night, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Doctor Zhivago, The Last Valley, The Searchers, Planet Of The Apes, All The President's Men, The Lion In Winter, Mutiny On The Bounty, The Last Emperor, The Longest Day, Superman

Television:

Match Of The Day, Have I Got News For You, err, that's it. Mainly use the TV for watching baseball and college football dvds and...my chess videos.

Books:

Hans Delbrueck, CJS Purdy, Jeremy Silman, John Watson, Jonathan Rowson, the Bible, Jane Austen, Anthony Trollope, PG Wodehouse, Herodotus, Xenophon, Arrian, Evelyn Waugh, Arthur Conan Doyle, Stephen Jay Gould, Steve Jones, John Emms. Used to love Sven Hassel but then I also used to love Agatha Christie, Enid Blyton and Richmal Crompton. As a matter of fact, I still like Richmal despite the shock I suffered at the age of about 10 on discovering the author of the Just William books was a woman.

Heroes:

Used to be Anatoly Karpov and whoever was playing in goal for Wolves. Somewhat disillusioned on both counts.
