About Me

Formed in 1966, the British group, Pink floyd originally started off as a pyschedellic group with Syd Barett as their group leader, Roger Waters played bass guitar, Nick Mason on drums and Rick Wright as organist and keybordist. During 1965 to 1968, the band produced extraordinary pieces of music, such as "Bike" "See emily play" and "Jugland blues". Pink Floyd were beginning to make their name. Unfortunately Syd Barett could not take realityof this situation and suffered a drug overdose on Lsd causing a mental breakdown; He was going mad. In the early year of 1968 Syd left the band who was then replaced with David Gilmour who was a friend of Roger. From then on Pink Floyd went on to experiment with a new form of musical style; Progressive rock. In 1969 the band produced Ummugumma and then in 1970 Atom heart mother. Only from 1971 did people notice the change of musical style Pink floyd had created, The album Meddle was Pink floyds first progressive rock album with a full 23 minute piece called "Echoes"on one side, their style started to develop and a year later in 1972 Pink floyd released "Obscured by clouds" By 1973 Pink Floyd released their most succesful album ever, "Dark side of the moon". This album looked at music in a different light, it contained different sounds created by synthersisers and recorded sounds which todays artists take for granted. Each track was carefully in line with the next one which were engineered by Alan Parsons. Pink Floyd were now a global band recognised by many countries, Dark side of the moon was in the album charts for 741, (14 years) making it the longest album on the charts ever. In 1975 they released "Wish you were here". By 1977 released Animals, including "Dogs" By 1979 Roger Waters produced the wall and in 1982 a film was made, Sadly Roger and David fell out and the band went their seperate ways. Roger went on to work with Rick wright and Nick mason releasing the Pink Floyd album "The Final Cut" in 1983. However it did not include Gilmour.By 1986 Roger Waters left the band and David Gilmour was re-united with Rick and Nick to release "A momentary lapse of reason" in 1987. This album had more less of a progressive rock style. Pink Floyds last album ever to be made was "The division bell" in 1994, this featured "High hopes" "Poles apart" etc. Pink Floyd have become legends and have become recognisable all over the world in their 29 years of music making.
