About Me

I don't want to brag, but I make the best hot dogs and Italian beefs. My fries are also amazing, especially my cheese fries. I do a great Maxwell Street Polish. I'm well rounded; people also love my burgers, salads, chocolate cake and more. Again, I try and stay modest, but just ask anyone from Chicago and they'll tell you all about me. I'm kind of famous.As for my history, I'll try to be brief. I come from humble beginnings. I started with nothing but the burning desire to share my tasty dogs with the masses. I opened in 1963 in Villa Park. In those days, I was really only a 6x12 trailer with no bathroom and no running water, but no, I'm not ashamed. I embrace my past.By 1967, I was a success and decided I deserved a makeover. From that point on, I went by the more sophisticated name "Portillo's." I grew like crazy since then and now have units all over Chicagoland. I recently opened a new location in Buena Park, CA, which is a huge hit with both new LA area customers and Chicago transplants.Over the years, I have won so many Silver Platter awards (the "Oscars" of the food industry) that I retired from competition to give others a chance.

My Interests

Um, food. Specifically:My dogs: Hot Dog- All beef with everything includes: mustard, relish, freshly chopped onions, sliced red ripe tomatoes, kosher pickle and sport peppers piled onto a perfectly steamed poppy seed bun. Chili Dog- Chili, onions and cheese. Char-Grilled Maxwell Street Style Polish- Mustard and lots of grilled onions. Jumbo Hot Dog- A thicker Hot Dog with mustard, relish, freshly chopped onions, sliced red ripe tomatoes, kosher pickle and sport peppers.
