Multiracial Apparel is a clothing line dedicated to celebrating the mixed race experience. It is the first clothing company of its kind to focus specifically on multiracial individuals and families. Other identities Multiracial Apparel explores through their clothing line include those who are involved in interracial relationships, parents of multiracial children, as well as transracial adoptees and their families. Most specialty clothing companies cater to just one group, such as African American, Asian American, Pacific Islander, Chicano/Latino, and Native American. Because of this lack of representation for multiracial and/or multiethnic people and their families, Multiracial Apparel was created to celebrate this experience through a series of slogans, logos, and other terms that capture these shared multiple identities. We believe that this will help foster a greater appreciation for diversity in a multicultural society. In the 2000 U.S. Census, people were able to check more than one racial category for the first time, with over seven million doing so. This is a clear testimony to the growing multiracial/multiethnic population in the U.S. and its desire to have representation. Thus, the goal of Multiracial Apparel is to provide clothing to address these experiences and share them with the world. In doing so, we want to redefine existing ideas about racial and ethnic identity. Our philosophy is to create a brand name that celebrates the multiplicity of individuals and our society in all its diversity, which range in all ages and come from walks of life. As part of our commitment to represent these experiences in a positive way, we work with a Board of Advisors, who are experts in the field of multiracial and multiethnic identity.
