February 24th 1989, the young maestro himself, Mikel “Kel†Roby was brought into this world. Grind has been the mind state since birth. He couldn't help to be musically inclined from influences such as his father, a percussionist. Kel became fluent with the piano ar four-years-old and has been a Hip-Hop/R&B producer since eleven-years-old, composing from an older friend's MPC 2000xl, Roland keyboard and a Proteus rack.Other talents eventually fell into place because of his “Do it Yourself†drive.
“Back as a younger rapper, if there was a way around spending less money for the same product, I was always up for the challenge. I 'slick' didn't want to pay anyone for beats so I attempted to make them and look what happened ; I 'slick' didn't want to pay anyone for album covers, fliers, and ads and look what happened. I say that with no arrogance behind it and I tell everyone who is in the same industry that they can do it too but the majority of them do not agree. What I did independently for myself for a 'short minute' became a business unexpectedly down-the-line. Designing flyers for local club promoters was a great network move to gain connections.â€
Kel was introduced to Damian, formerly known as DJ kNOw SKILLz, the founder of Asylum recording artist Paul Wall's “Grid-Iron DJ†crew. Damian was responsible for Kel's appearances and credits with Texas's most popular artists such as O.G Ron C, H.A.W.K, Paul Wall, Clover G's, DSR, Bosshogg Outlawz. Kel's hype led him to Cyber Sapp of Cyberwerks Music, Gucci Mane , Bohagon, Ying Yang Twins, Young Joc and more.
“I was a yungin' without 'clout' in Memphis on the phone as a grown man, making moves with Texas artists. Awhile ago, a level of pride in me made me feel like I was 'back-tracking'. I was a fourteen year old talking to people that 'radio rappers' in my city wanted to reach. Certain people in my city threw me that same 'out-of -town' vibe just because the mentality for some is to prejudge me as another 'local-joker'. I came across a client of mine with a team that seriously had the same mindset so we collaborated together to all form the “Streetz On Lock†Movement. The movement itself is not a label. It's just a team of 'real' people with hella' talent who all know 'what's really going on'. What we got going is something powerful so there really is no missing link. Off-top, not arrogant but hella confident saying this, we got the youngest hardest producers that keeps consistent heat. We got a cutthroat resume moving for anybody and it doesn't look like its going to pause. Marvelous J , K.E.V., Jaytastic , the honorable C-NOTE, and myself,Kel, are responsible for production with T.I. , P.S.C, Big Kuntry King, Young Joc, Lil Mama, Rocko, Trey Songz, Kia Shine, BossHogg Outlawz, Bohagon, FloRida, Lil Wayne, Daz Dillinger and still counting.â€
