About Me

Weird. Always saying the wrong thing. Artist/Musician/Weirdo.

My Interests

Music, screenprinting, dreams, space, the sea, the sun, the wind – maybe Law.

I'd like to meet:

My own shadow.

Music:

Heavy Psychedelic/Far Out Dub. I chose the Menace track for this page (but I have since changed it for Your Black Star... sorry) as I happened upon their MySpace page and I once saw them play an amazingly manic version of "GLC" in 1978 at The Roxy – one of the most brilliant performances I've ever seen along with Fripp & Eno at The Assembly Halls in Tun Wells (1975), and The Groundhogs, and The Damned with Brian James, and Jeff Beck, and Hawkwind, and Primal Scream and... Joy Division, A Certain Ratio (psychedelic classics BTW), Hot Tuna, Utopia, Johnny Thunders with The Boys at The Marquee in Summer 1977, Vorderman, The Old Dolphin Brigade, Contra Las Aras, The Space Parade, The Cramps (with Bryan Gregory), Roxy Music (with Eno), Caravan, Section 25, all the good Prog stuff, all the good Punk stuff, all the good Dub stuff, Ultravox (WITH John Foxx only), Spirit, Santana in 1975, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, How Soon? Sweet Achilles, Patto.

Movies:

The 3rd Victim/2001 A Space Odyssey/Barbarella/Easy Rider/Citizen Kane/Frankenstein/Clockwork Orange/Koyaanisquatsi/The Muppet Movie/A Day At The Races/The Great Dictator/The Creature from the Black Lagoon/Isle of Wight Festival/Donnie Darko/Eraserhead/Great Expectations/Blade Runner/Tron/The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, that film with Dustin Hoffman and Faye Dunaway: "Little Big Man"? Kagemusha, Rocky and Bullwinkle, most of Jim Candy's films.

Television:

Original Star Trek/Lost in Space/Hill St Blues/Dr Who, The Outer Limits/Twilight Zone (the original 60s stuff), the game between the New England Patriots and the Chicago Bears in 1986(?), that film about the Ice Hockey player who couldn't stop being violent, that film about the bank clerk who sees the robber "postpone" the robbery and so he nicks all the money in advance himself and his girlfriend's head ends up in his fish tank, Vision On (when my old friend Margot was in it), The Munsters, Batman, that private detective thing from the 70s where the guy lives in a trailer, Green Wing, that weird thing that was on really late with that Jewish Neighbour in it out of Birds of a Feather that had all those Goths and madness in it, Synefeld, Antiques Roadshow when it has interesting paintings on it, OGWT, Cheers, Frasier, The Lucille Ball Show (she was just like my sister). No Reality TV at all.

Books:

All the original fantasy stuff, some sci-fi, and Gary Cook's "Burst" 'cos it mentions me in it, The Dice Man, Humboldt's Gift, A Comet in Moominland, The Book of Revelations.

Heroes:

Hendrix, Zappa, Buchanan, Ollie Halsall, Janis Joplin, Salvador Dali, Man Ray, Rauschenberg, Warhol, Carravaggio, Van Eyck, Bosch, Dadd, That Irish Fairy Painter, Fuseli.

School buses

Tonight is very cold and I was looking forward to getting the fire going and sitting down with a beer or 78 and ignoring all those annoying famous media people on TV doing Children In Need. Well, my d...

Tarmac and Tonbridge

Last night I went to the Inn for a dinner again, and sat next to some poor girl who ended up having a heartfelt conversation with me about whether men come from women or whether women came from some b...

New York Dolls

Last night when I got home from the Off Licence (with no food or beer!) there was a really interesting film on the New York Dolls' bassist, the late Arthur "Killer" Harris (?) who it seems was a ...

Chicken Shack

I went to see Stan Webb's Chicken Shack at The Forum, Tunbridge Wells on Thursday night. I remember him from the early/mid 70s when I used to have pictures cut out from MM and NME of guitarists I like...

The Bull and Gate

Last night I went to see the excellent Heat From A Dead Star at the B&G in Kentish Town. The evening started with a last minute decision to go between Steven (my drummer who was briefly and confus...

Autumn

It's a month now since dear old Daisy departed this world, and Fluffy the Cat is beginning to adjust to her not being around. Also, yesterday I had to empty the Hoover bag and it was just full of Dais...

Summer has ended

My dear, daft little dog Daisy, whose last great achievement was the stealthy theft and not so clandestine devouring of Rachel's pork pie (from out of her handbag indeed) at The Old Dolphin Brigade's ...

Les Paul Standards

Why do people who call themselves "guitarists" actually allow themselves to think that they have advanced any "standards" set by other guitarists?I have just viewed a site (that shall remain nameless)...

Recordings and exam invigilation

I have just spent 3 days in the recording studio with The Old Dolphin Brigade and marvellously weird it has been. Last night I was working in the off licence and managed to play the rough mixes whilst...

I went to the shops yesterday and bought a Mick Farren and The Deviants CD before it was too late. My wife's aunty (who went to The UFO Club while it existed and sat there and admired Syd Barrett's bu...
