About Me

Above all things, I seek intelligence. Intellectual conversation is the ultimate aphrodisiac for me. Not to say that I'm not susceptible to other forms of foreplay...but that's another topic entirely. I love life, and want mine to be filled with light, laughter, music, poetry, dancing, love, hard work, just rewards, exploration, originality, friendship, and a bit of darkness thrown in for good measure. I'm a huge tomboy. I pride myself on being strong, daring, efficient, reliable, and smart. I don't say this to boast, but if you're reading this you obviously want to know something about me, so I may as well be up front about myself. Take any of this as you please.

Steve Balsamo. Welsh Wonder and Stealer of Souls. All hail the falsetto.

Music video for The Greenskeepers' "Lotion". Fucking Brilliant!

My Interests

I love all things relating to the arts (music, dance, sculpture, theatre, painting, performance art, etc.) or natural sciences. Outside of my life as a performer and aspiring director (and maybe even writer one day), I am a trained massage therapist, and originally planned to major in marine biology in university. I have a great affection for all creatures, but particularly those that are misunderstood by the masses, namely reptiles, arachnids and insects. I have always been older than my years, and though very young at heart, I hope to never lose that edge. I am also an avid cook, and one day hope to be able to afford the time and money to go to culinary school. There are many other things I could say, but that would take up entirely too much of my time, and yours, so if you are curious about anything else, just ask me. I am very direct about most things in my life, and am not easily offended, so ask me anything you like.

I'd like to meet:

As far as famous persons are concerned, I'm not so much the "I wanna meet so-and-so" kinda person...the famous people I really want to meet are people I have a tremendous amount of respect for and really wanna get to know. Sit down, chill, and have a beer with. Some of these include, but are not limitted to: (top of the list)TRIPOD! I love you Yon, Scod, and Gatesy! (see below) also: the Mythbusters (Jamie and Adam), Mike Rowe, Jimmy Gnecco, Alan Doyle, Sean McCann, Bob Hallett, Amanda Palmer and Brian Viglione, Ty and Katie Noonan, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Maggie Smith, Saul Williams, Mel Brooks, Kathleen Turner, Cyd Sharise, Billy Petersen, Willem Defoe, Alan Rickman, Kenneth Branagh, Patrick Stewart, Joaquin Phoenix, Gene Wilder, Albert Einstein, Gene Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire, Julie Taymor, Fiona Apple, Sarah McLachlan, Maynard James Keenan, Trent Reznor, Jimmy Stewart, Mel Brooks, Steven Hawking, Jacque Cousteau, and so many more I can't list or think of right now, but that should give you some idea.Aside from famous persons, I most desperately want to meet intellectual people without too much drama in their lives...I need a break from other people's drama! I have enough of my own...

TRIPOD performing at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. And you shall know them by the geekdom of their lyrics.

Music:

First off, my loves and inspirations in the world of music are too numerous to mention, but they range from Rachmaninov and Orff to Tori Amos and Andrew Lippa. I do have to say, though, that two of the best bands I have ever had the honor to listen to are two that I'm 99% positive you have never heard of. As soon as you can, find a copy of george's album Polyserena and Ours' album Distorted Lullabies. Seriously...go do it...now...why are you still reading this? You should be searching the net for someplace to find these! Oh, and while you're searching, look into Great Big Sea, especially if you like Irish-style pub songs, and the Dresden Dolls if you dig a little punk cabaret :). I know I said my music selections are too many to list, but here's a list anyway: Ours, george, Bjork, Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, Tool, Nirvana, Napoleon XIV, Gogol Bordello, DeVotchKa, Muse, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Beirut, Bourbon Princess, Art Brut, Cat Power, Feist, Jill Tracy, Leahy, La Bottine Souriante, Martin Martini and the Bone Palace Orchestra, The Red Paintings, Enya, Blue Man Group, Portishead, Tracy Chapman, The Mama's and the Pappa's, Kasey Chambers, The Tragically Hip, Rogers & Hammerstein, Pink Floyd, Queen, Kander & Ebb, Tchaikowsky, Simon & Garfunkel, Great Big Sea, The Dresden Dolls, Sarah McLachlan, Scared Wierd Little Guys, Tripod, Tim Minchin, J.S. Bach, Beethoven, Edward Elgar, Imogen Heap, Paula Cole, They Might Be Giants, System of a Down, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Jewel, Huey Lewis, Alanis Morissette, Andrew Lippa, Rufus Wainright, Jeff Buckley, The Living End, Mungo Jerry, Louis Armstrong, Ray Stevens, Henry Mancini, Peter Sarsdedt, The Clash, The Beatles, Live, India.Arie, Elton John, Fisher, Blessid Union of Souls, ABBA, Coldplay, Cyndi Lauper, Dar Williams...ok...I have to stop now...

Movies:

Same thing with movies as music...I'll spare you this time around.

Television:

I rarely get the opportunity to watch tv, but I have a few favorites. Anamaniacs is the best show EVER!!! Volume I is on my shelf and I'll be getting Volume II soon. I also have an avid love for CSI, and have every season on DVD...Gil Grissom...you are my perfect man. Also Family Guy, The Daily Show, The Venture Brothers, The Oblongs, Invader Zim, MST3K, and anything on the Discovery Channel or Food Network.

Books:

How about we go with authors, it's easier: C.S. Lewis, Madeline L'Engle, D.H. Lawrence, Frank Perretti, Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, J.K. Rowling, "Big Willie" (Shakespeare), Aldous Huxley, Sherman Alexie, Homer, Edgar Allen Poe, Jacqueline Carey, Roald Dahl, H.G. Wells, Jules Verne, Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, Mary Shelley, Charles Dickens, and I'm kinda partial to some of Nietzsche's stuff, too.

Heroes:

My heroes are those people I know who inspire me on a daily basis to strive, not for perfection, but for my best...if your name is not on this list, don't be offended... Mum - my biggest hero and most unerring supporter; Dad - I miss you and I think of you every day...you'll always be my hero; Eman - my dearest friend, you always manage to make me laugh, and you never judge me for what I say or do. you are a constant source of joy, love and support. i love you; Taz - my love, my life, my most perfect companion. there's no one else wierd enough for me. w-1; Joe - my friend, despite never keeping in touch like we should, you have never waivered in your friendship and support; Gus - you never fail to make me smile, and despite being rediculously busy with your own life, you always make time for me, and have been an ever-present comfort to me since the day we met; Greg - my mentor and my friend...you never cease to amaze and inspire me.
