[Notochord] A solid rod of cells produced during embryonic development. It provides the foundation of the vertebral column and induces the development of the nervous system.

Sound waves are converted by the ear into auditory impulses that travel directly to the brain and result in a series of neural synapses. These directly stimulate our nervous system and can create a physiological response. Our body relaxes or becomes more energized; our emotions intensify or they subside; we feel more content or become extremely aggitated. Sound is capable of influencing the body and mind in an infinite amount of ways. When these audible waves combine to produce an effect that we consider desirable, it is defined as music.
Complex music, compositions that use random frequencies or contain unexpected patterns, can encourage and enhance these physiological effects. In an attempt to translate the complexity of the incoming sound, our emotional experience and metabolic response are amplified. Over time our brains are able to process the sounds more accurately and we become more fine-tuned to the musical structure. A composition that sounds incoherent at first, may suddenly become more melodic and understandable. Our physiological response changes as we adapt to the stimuli. Repeating the composition over and over, we discover elements that were not noticed before. Our perception and experience continues to be altered every time it is played.
Notochord, the record label, has been created to expand on this concept and provide music that will stimulate and educate. As the Notochord in the embryo, it will induce the listeners nervous system to develop and generate its thoughts and emotions. Notochord does not put any limits or boundaries on the music that it releases. Innovative and experimental without losing focus of rhythm and structure, the innate qualities that tap directly into our brains neurons. IDM, triphop, electro, dnb, ambient, breakcore, etc. Label it however you wish. We just call it music here.
