About Me
Straight from the island of Jamaica and influenced greatly by his church roots, D-Dub began playing the drums at the tender age of 8 years old. He played along side his brother for the church choir, gospel concerts and other musical events. D-Dub then considered the possibilities beyond the church congregations and sought do what the Apostle Paul wrote so eloquently, Strive for excellence.During his teen years, the hip-hop beats and flavor stirred D-Dubs creativity and transformed his approach to music. He knew that he was given a gift, and he had to figure out how to use it the best way he knew how.
To get started, D-Dub purchased some modest equipment, converted his walk-in basement apartment into a partial sound studio; collected music from different genres and cultures; learned to appreciate musicians, not just as performing artists, but as visual artists, who paint images with their chords; began experimenting with recreating space and time, both past and present, with his music. He aims to be an innovator, challenger of the norm and to establish discipline in the hip-hop arena.
D-Dubs major influences come from other great innovators of music such as Stevie Wonder, Quincy Jones, Timberland, DJ Premiere, Just Blaze, the Winans family, and J Dilla, to name a few. He does not aspire to be like them, however, he aspires to extend and expound on what they have started. Taking the vision of creating good music to a new generation. His style is considered funky with the old school influence with a blend of natural sounds that could only have been enveloped by a real musician.
"I believe when the love of your music exceeds the love of your image, only then will you truly grow as an artist" -D-Dub
