About Me

Not-quite-as-angry-as-I-was-but-still-sort-of-frustrated writer and reluctant optimist.
When you were a tadpole and I was a fish
In the Paleozoic time,
And side by side on the ebbing tide
We sprawled through the ooze and slime,
Or skittered with many a caudal flip
Through the depths of the Cambrian fen,
My heart was rife with the joy of life,
For I loved you even then.
From "Evolution" by Langdon Smith
Inside this clay jar there are meadows and
groves and the One who made them.
Inside this jar there are seven oceans and
innumerable stars, acid to test gold, and
a patient appraiser of jewels.
Inside this jar the music of eternity, and
a spring flows from the source of all waters.
Kabir says: Listen, friend! My beloved
Master lives inside.
~Kabir

My Interests

Poetry, theatre, metaphysics, in rotating order.

I'd like to meet:

The next person willing to publish my work.

Music:

Most anything, as long as the music is melodic and original and the lyrics are good. So I'm more selective than the first two words might indicate.

Movies:

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Pride and Prejudice (miniseries version), pretty much anything with really old houses or really big dresses.

Television:

Sex and the City, Law and Order (all versions), a lot of PBS and a lot of History Channel.

Books:

The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy; any volumes of poetry by Charles Bukowski, Billy Collins, or Gregory Orr; any books by Jane Austen.

Heroes:

Too many and not enough --- anyone showing the best of what human nature can be.

A trip down memory lane...

Some of you know that I have been married twice. If I haven't mentioned the first marriage, it's because it has always been a bit of a Jerry Springer - type embarassment to me. It was a bad marri...

Choose your subculture carefully!

If you are a woman writer, it is very important that you conform to the thinking of one of the following four groups. Otherwise, you clearly cannot be trusted to be a free and creative thinker. 1) Th...

Media blackout over; best Harry Potter book EVER.

Though much was sad, and most of my theories were wrong. And the party was good. Not much to it, just a table with cookies and a very friendly lady who asked the trivia questions and gave out posters....

TAGThe rules in this game of tag are simple -- once you have been tagged, you must write a blog with 15 weird or random little-known facts about yourself. Then you must choose ...

Update on stuff in general.

Made a 7/10 on second paper (guess that's like a C? not sure since Australian standards may be different). Would have been very happy to have done better, but the TA graded it, and she essentially kno...

Self-worth question:

Okay, I would like to understand exactly how much we are supposed to do for ourselves and how much we are supposed to be able to accept from others. Here's the deal -- we all know that love has to com...

Weird dream

Keep in mind that there was a sense of mounting terror throughout this dream: It's nighttime; for some reason I've just gotten up, but Danny is asleep. My bedroom light won't work. I try it over and o...
