You'll likely never meet another guy quite like me, for better or worse. I am an individual with a capital "I." I can be somewhat of a contradiction sometimes. Just when you think you've got me figured out, I'll pull something new out of the hat to surprise you. I am unfortunately a natural born procrastinator, though if you were to ask me I'd tell you that's only because I do my best work under pressure. That remains to be seen whether that's true or not.
I am very much a Christian and very adamant about it, but I'm not a hypocrite and try to accept everyone for who they are and what they believe. I try to be very compassionate and caring towards people and always look on the bright side. I believe everything, even the bad stuff, happens for a reason. I believe in forgiving all those who wrong you, even if it's hard, because harboring hatred and anger inside can really mess you up. I believe in being the better person and going against your own nature to repay evil deeds with good ones.
I believe in following your dreams, no matter how crazy they may seem cause sometimes the journey is what it's all about, not whether you fail or succeed. If your heart's in the right place, then you can never be a failure in life. Sometimes our plans and God's plans aren't the same, so I believe in putting your life in his hands and trying to be mindful of the doors he opens for you. I believe you must know yourself fully and what you believe in and be willing to stand and fight for it. We've all got our causes. Some are just more superficial than others. But above all else, I believe that every individual can make a positive impact on this world. So if you're in a position to help somebody, THEN DO IT. Life is too short to live only for yourself, and there's more to this life than just what we perceive. SO LIVE, AND LIVE WELL.
Aside from all that, I'm somewhat of a movie aficionado and enjoy most all types of music as long as it's good. I realize good is a subjective word, but ask me what good is sometime...and I'll tell you. I'm a very creative person, prone to being perhaps an overly-optimistic day-dreamer. I love writing and plan to ultimately before I die write at least one good book and some short stories and movie screenplays. I've got a ton of ideas. I write all my own original songs. My mind is my greatest asset and my greatest liability at the same time. Sometimes my mind is just overloaded with ideas to the point that I just can't get any rest or peace. I'm very big on setting goals and making serious plans to achieve them. You won't find many people more self-motivated than me. I can be a leader when I need to be, and I can kick back and relax when the time calls for it too (sometimes maybe a little too much).
Now for the musical background...I was born July 10, 1984 in Toccoa, Georgia, but I was raised for 20 years in Walhalla, South Carolina. I didn't grow up singing or performing. In fact, as a kid, I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, as my mom would say. I started getting into poetry though at the age of 13 and started writing my first songs soon after. I studied the craft of songwriting like an art and took many tips from the poetic writing styles of two of my favorite old writers, William Shakespeare and Edgar Allan Poe.
After I had written a bunch of song lyrics I needed to put music to some of them, so with the help of my father, I picked up playing guitar. It helped me to learn to sing better and eventually get into performing.
By the time I was a senior in high school I had started to develop my style a bit and made my first studio-produced CD called "Written In Stone" which was mainly just a Country CD with just a couple hints of some of my Rock influence towards the end of the album. I had some great musicians play on the CD, including the former lead guitarist for Randy Travis, The Marshall Tucker Band, and John Anderson. I also had a bass player that used to play with a bunch of guys including John Anderson and Aaron Tippin. The CD made its way into the hands of some execs. at Sony, and the feedback was good, but before anything serious could come of that Sony went thru a huge corporate merger that screwed everything up as far as that went. So I've been focusing on doing the whole songwriter thing lately.
Cindy Orr, The former lead singer of the Country group Dixiana that was big in the late 80's and early 90's, sang back-up vocals on the album too. Thanks to her involvment with the project, I was able to hook up with Phil and Mark Lister, two of the other founding members of Dixiana who now own a recording studio and publishing company in Nashville on Music Row. I'm working with them now trying to pitch some songs to other artists thru their songplugger Dallas Gregory.
I performed around all over the place for 2 or 3 years to gain some experience. I won a few talent shows, etc. I recently got a good recorder and am finally able to produce some decent live guitar/vocal acoustic demos at home, some of which I will be making available on myspace along with some of the songs from my old studio album.
I have been very fortunate lately to make some writing appointments with some hit writers and heroes of mine and hope to do a lot more of that in the future. I have finally made the long-awaited move to Nashville. I could always use a helping hand if anybody knows anybody who could help me out. God bless, and thanks for reading.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Just me, T. J. Stone. I'm just a solo singer/songwriter for now.
Influences: Basically, my two biggest influences that define my style are Rob Thomas, the lead singer of Matchbox 20, and Garth Brooks. My overall style is a blend of the two. I like to refer to my music as "stonecountry". However, I like all kinds of music. I grew up on Country and Gospel and got into some Rock in my early teen years. My favorite Rock band of all time is Matchbox Twenty. Another big influence of mine is Edwin McCain, who grew up just about an hour from where I live. A few other big country influences of mine are Rhett Akins (who to this day put on my favorite show I've ever been to), Neal McCoy (who consistently is one of the best performers out there today), and Clay Walker. My favorite female singer of all time will probably always be Reba McEntire, and I'm sure she's influenced me in many ways. My all time biggest influence that got me into music in the first place though is and always will be Garth Brooks.
Aside from some of the main influences, I like a ton of stuff, everything from Hank Williams Sr. to Elvis Presley to Shakira to Buddy Holly to 3 Doors Down to Keith Whitley to Mariah Carey to Train to Jewel. Anything with a good sound and some heart and soul is good to me.
A few of my favorite songs ever include "The Dance" by Garth Brooks, "3 A.M." by Matchbox Twenty, "I'll Be" by Edwin McCain, "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" by Aerosmith and the Country version by Mark Chesnutt, "Don't Close Your Eyes" by Keith Whitley, "Amarillo By Morning" by George Strait, "Here Without You" by 3 Doors Down, "Smooth" by Rob Thomas and Santana, "Love, Me" by Collin Raye, "She Can't Say I Didn't Cry" by Rick Trevino, and those are just a few.
Sounds Like: Garth Brooks, Rob Thomas, Matchbox Twenty, Alan Jackson.
I have some funny tongue-in-cheek songs like Brad Paisley. I can also do some more traditional Country stuff and some Christian and Alternative stuff.
Maybe you can tell me who I sound like......I think I've got my own style for the most part now.
