Having something to think about Having an idea that will spark millions more Having a feeling that I share with someone...anyone A common idea, thought, belief, emotion that can connect you to others having that same idea, thought, belief or emotion...Interest!
I could use two pages and wouldn't be able to list all the people I would like to meet. To me meeting people is like writing, you can never do too much of either. But let me at least try to inform you as to where my mind is...Musically, I would like to meet Michael Jackson, Nina Simone, Quincey Jones - I feel all have made a great contribution to the genre in which they reap. Politically, I would like to meet Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Hariette Tubman, etc. And last but not least I would like to meet Terry McMillian, Zane and other African American women who have paved the way in literature; past and present.
My favorite cd of all time is The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Right now I am feeling Ne-Yo, Anthony Hamilton, Floetry and Jill Scoot. But I feel obligated to give my personal shot out to all the classics - Nina Simone, Coltrane, Miles Davis and Billy Holiday - you can never go wrong with these. These artist are my GROWN AND SEXY selections. There are alot of hip hop artist that I listen to but that depends on what is being said so they can change from time to time.
Movies are more difficult to select because there are alot of movies that I have enjoyed. One few of my most favorite selections are The Color Purple, Hotel Rawanda, Lion King, The Rundown (or anything else with The Rock in it.). This list could go on and on but I will pass.
Def Poets, Law & Order, Medium, Wrestling, Boxing, Basketball-only if Denver is playing, Baseball-only if Boston is playing.
My urban contemporary pics would be Zane, Eric Jerone Dickey, Noire and Vickie Stringer. I also enjoy reading Terry McMillian, J.D. Mason and Toni Morrison (she is the best!). Honestly, this section is just like my movie selection, I will read anything that is in print, from Fantasia to Zora Hurston!
My heroes are the nameless and faceless people that paid the price for me to be who I am today. They are the millions of faces that look like mine, that were double-crossed and manhandled on that ship going to their death. They are the men and women who had to endure the worse type of life, emotional, mental and physical abuse for no other reason then because they were Africans. While I can't personally say "Thank You," I have the opportunity to show my appreciation by the way I live my life, raise my children and treat every person that I come in contact with. So my respect goes out to them!
