I am here for Friends

About Me

I don't really wear boots, but if I did, they'd have buckles. And not gold buckles, but silver. I'd get them polished regularly: drop the five dollars to feel like a man, as no one but a shoe shiner can make me feel. But I mean I'd talk to him (or her, as the case may be), make small talk that seems of the utmost import, really make a bond with the person providing me their service, because I can't stand the isolation of feeling aloof and superior. I never want to believe that someone is actually serving me, for money no less. I prefer to imagine that they are just being nice, that way I don't walk away (with my new shiny boots) feeling like an asshole.

My Interests

I like books and bikes and cheesy poofs. I'm learning Latin right now to be hardcore and understand phrases like "spectate mortem."

I'd like to meet:

people who want to be my friends

Music:

My mom gave my girlfriend some Jan Sebastian Bach organ concertos on cd. Those are in my car to impart their eerieness and baroque-itude. I'm also starting to like Bjork and other things where the singers actually sing. That said, I still listen to Pelican and Tom Waits and you should all go check out my brother's band because he's an ogre: www.bleedthesky.com.

Movies:

V for Vendetta at this time - Natalie Portman...

Television:

I only watch TV when I need to eat, instead of staring at the wall by myself, I seek solace in the voices of scripted dramatists - like the real housewives of orange county, or top chef or whatever else happens to be on my girlfriend's tv when I turn it on. I haven't watched the news in probably about a year.

Books:

I read a lot of early analytic philosophy on my own. I think the stuff's pretty cool. Just finished Ayer's Language Truth and Logic (I read Naked Economics over the weekend because somehow I'm interviewing for a stock analyst position next week), working on some essays of Russell's. Also picking through my girlfriend's roommate's A History of Private Life: From the Fires of Revolution to the Great War, and some of Sarte's Being and Nothingness. I tried to read some latter work of Heiddegger but can't understand what language he's speaking. For fun I just read The Double by Jose Saramago and I'm still trying to get through Moby Dick, whatever that says about me.

Heroes:

More than anyone, I admire my mom, Ashley Knights, and my brother. All of them have devoted themselves untiringly to seemingly hopeless pursuits: my brother to his music, my mom to my brother, and Ashley to every goddam thing that he sets his mind to.

gourds

so, this is a blog, eh? I have heard about these. What does one talk about in them. Just whatever comes to mind? Maybe I'll just write a quote that amused me when I read it a few nights ago. It's ab...
