Welcome to my world.Enjoy...Hip-Hop is in serious transition right now. After years of being diluted with fantasies of bling, gangstaism, and other substance free content, emerging artists are searching for a place left field from their predecessors. Enter Chicago based trio, The Deadly Rap Operation, of D.R.O. These energetic, eclectic students of the craft have been work carving out a niche for themselves amidst layers of repetition. The journey began for these cats when Mizkonduct and Explicit met at the ages of 11 and 10 respectively. Then known to the world as Jeremy and Lawrence, the two shared an immediate connection, becoming fast friends. Sharing similar experiences in areas of overstressed single black mothers, distant fathers who lived walking distance, the two friends had a platform to begin to cultivate careers. At around 13, Mizkonduct was first out to the gate, calling Explicit nightly with new verses he had written. Ex soon rose to the spirit of friendly competition and began to write verses of his own to respond with. Both studied meticulously the sound of Major and Wildabeast, Explicit's older cousins. "Major could get in the cipher and freestyle for hours," recalls Miz, now 20, adoration still present to the day. " Will just had an animalistic approach to music. It's just raw." adds Explicit.Once the pair entered high school, they were ready to test their skills at every true emcees rite of passage, the lunch table. Amongst their peers, the duo became known for kicking hilarious punch lines and unsyncipated flows. Here, they also met Sideshow Bob, a lo key graffeti artist with a penchant for weed and a gift on the mic no one even knew about. Explicit remembers, " I came home with our first track with Bob. I was playin it in my room an only brother comes runnnin in like ' Who the fuck is this?' Bob was sittin there laughin." " It's my voice, I think," Bob interjects humbly. "People always say they like my voice." With their non-chalant attitudes, laid back demeanors, and lack of fear of self, the group now had everything they needed to formulate success. Crowds and crowds alike respond to the group's raw hip hop energy with nothing but love every time. From Mizkonduct's lyrical acrobatics, to Sideshow's (age 19) head bobbing delivery, to 19-year-old Explicit's pant dropping antics onstage, this group has definitely marked themselves as hip-hop's newest and truest legacies. And with songs like "CHI," "Birds," and "Make Me Wanna Sing" to back the claim up, all that's left to do now is show and prove. (Written by My Brother Mario Hassell)
