I came from a very good family. When i was in Medical School, my family went bankrupt and i had to leave. I went to work for Alexis Hargreaves, meeting Cain. Later on it is revealed that my family was killed in a fire. After Alexis's death he leaves Cornwall Castle with Cain for London. Here i become the steward, much to uncle Neil's disapproval.
