"Zach Wilson, the sole member, contacted me recently with news that he had finished his full length album, so naturally, I was curious to hear it. His last EP, Color It All, was the perfect balance of snappy electronic beats, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and fantastically poppy melodies. It definitely comes as no surprise then that his latest album, Falconry, Or Storybook Electronica picks up right where the EP left off. Kicking things off with a handful of cover tracks, the determined Wilson does his best to cover such songs as Patrick Wolf's "Peter Pan," The Zombies' "The Way I Feel Inside," and The Eagles' "New York Minute." Scaling back on the electronics a bit, Wilson's acrobatic vocals are the prominent instrument in each of these tracks and they work well to turn each cover into his own original version. The second half of Falconry is composed of Wilson's original songs. The standouts from this set include the mellow romantic ode "Teesa" and the boppy and wonderfully sarcastic "Yo Soy Dios." Although Falconry is noticeably more laid-back than the Color It All EP, it still shows a new side to Ulysses Campbell's self-proclaimed "poptronica" sound and proves that sometimes the best bands out there are the relatively unknown ones."
