Red Hot Burritos

Traditional country with spicy upbeat flare!

About Me

The Red Hot Burritos began as an all-male quartet in 1989, partly as a salute to country rock pioneers Gram Parsons and the Flying Burritos Brothers. Inaugural members were guitarist TODD LUECK, drummer (& brother) COREY LUECK, bassist Glen Freeman, and frontman JIMMY DEAN. In 1990, CARLA TAYLOR replaced DEAN, and the Canadian-based group began writing and recording. Soon their singles were doing well on radio and an independent CD, "Taken By Surprise," produced by industry-veteran, Rob Bryanton, was released. The album featured singles "Feelin' Like a Fool," "To Be or Not to Be," as well as the title track. The Burritos' biggest audience was on TNN's Nashville Now TV program with country legend & show host RALPH EMERY. Longing to get closer to the heart of the business, Taylor moved to Nashville in 1993 where she continued exploring many musical performance and recording projects. She was replaced by RHONDA GIBSON, who gave the Burritos a more R&B flavoured sound. One recording session yielded two songs: "This Time" was released as a single. Soon after, the group appeared to it's 2nd largest viewing audience on Shaw Cable's TV show "Project Discovery," which aired numerous times across Canada in all Shaw Cable markets. After the departure of Gibson in 1996, the boys released a CD, "Three for the Show", using producer DAVE CHABOT along with soon-to-be-engineer-of-choice-for-MUTT-LANGE (SHANIA TWAIN), KEVIN CHURKO. A much-publicized dispute with Revenue Canada over GST-law interpretation, saw the band call it quits in 1997. Nevertheless, the group stayed friends, and Taylor reunited with the Lueck brothers and Freeman for a couple of dates in summer 1998. Since then, members of the band have worked together in various combinations and projects but a reunion of the "core four" eluded them. Finally, events conspired to bring the group back together in the winter of 2006. The Red Hot Burritos are currently rehearsing and recording in anticipation of shows in late 2006. Music:

Band Website: myspace.com/redhotburritos
Band Members: Brothers Todd and Corey Lueck on guitar and drums respectively, with vocalist/guitarist Carla Taylor and bassist Glen Freeman.
Influences: Wide-ranging: Hank Williams, Buck Owens, Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris, Merle Haggard, the Beatles, Linda Ronstadt, Maria McKee and Lone Justice, The Carter Family, The Byrds...and many others.
Sounds Like: With Taylor on lead vocals, the band was sometimes compared to the original Highway 101, whose members had many of the same influences as the Burritos. Comparisons to the Gram and Emmylou sound are occasional and flattering.
