About Me

Hello everybody. My name's Mike Dunn and this is my story.
I've played music for a long time now, my mom is a great piano teacher so we always had music in my house. I started learning piano when I was pretty young but, like many young 13 year olds have done before, dropped it and picked up a guitar.
However it wasn't till college that I got serious about music. I was eager to find people that had the same outlook on music that I had and gladly found that in my first band, Hillside. Hillside was together for a little under 3 years. There were ups and downs, including a show at Hard Rock Live and a busted tour (you tell me which is which). We parted ways in 2003 but all of the guys are up to great things of their own now.
After Hillside split I filled in on bass for various bands but focused mainly on school and writing me own stuff. I always found the greatest artists were songwritters. Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, those were the guys I looked up to. I wanted to write great songs, they were permanent, they lasted forever. I figured bands come and go but the song stays.
I had a good perspective on what I was doing though, I knew where my writing needed to be and I wasn't ready to show it to people if it wasn't up to snuff. So I started recording demos, lots and lots of demos. I have a couple tapes full of songs I've forgotten, and many that should be forgotten. But, there were some that stuck and I began to think, "maybe I got something here."
So it was my last semester at college, I majored in Philosophy and got a couple other degrees and minors too, I loved school but I was focusing more and more on music. For the first time I felt confident to bring my songs to a songwritter and friend I looked up to, Louis DeFabrizio. Lou sings and writes for Gasoline Heart (mono vs. stereo) and things really picked up when Lou showed some interest in the songs.
Lou offered to produce my stuff and I gladly accepted, he ready did a lot of work. We got a band together with my buddies Christer and Daniel and played a great first show. In February 2006 we headed up to Atlanta and recorded an album with Matt Malpass at his studio. For 5 days we worked tirelessly on this album, which is called "The Edge of America" and I think we came out with something good. My friend C.J. played lead on the record and the great Jeff Irizarry did drums at 3 in the morning, leaving the next morning on a plane.
We walked away with 6 tracks and I can honestly say theres something I love about all of them. The CD is set to come out this Spring. I'm looking forward to the future. I hope you are too. These songs are about my friends, they're about where I live, where I'm from, where we think we're going, where we're acctually going and why we're leaving. You can check back here for shows I'll be playing solo and hopefully some demos in the future.
