We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give. (Sir Winston Churchill) I bestow this gift upon you, As I introduction of myself FranC Grimes Da M.e.N.a.S a.k.a. His HIGHness. I am the starting guard for the Dollars 1ST camp. I just so happen to be a strategic member of a team of rhyme spitters straight from the Chi-Town streets 87th from King to Cottage. We D1 cats are always making ill-a-noise throughout the state of Illinois. So tie up your shoestrings and get your defense on point as I drive through the lane.
Since age twelve I knew I had a spark for music. My older brother put me up on all the Hip-Hop greats like Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy no.1, Dr. Dre, and the list goes on and on. I took all that insight from early Hip-Hop that I learned along with my own personal life lessons and cultivated my works of lyrical expertise. Also, I observed my Father, whom is a well known Chicago Reggae performer, weave his magic live on countless occasions. While watching the swagger and stage presence my old man had I came to the realization that,†It’s in my blood!†So I began my new set of the 3R’s; Rhyming, WRiting, and Reciting.
Once High school came I was the man on 55th and Lowe. I attended a new flourishing, up and coming high school named John Hope. I was one of the most influential students within the walls of Hope. I became quite known by teachers, students, and the principal Dr. Mahalia Hines, who gave birth to one of the most influential rappers in the game Common or Rasheed as she called him, as a scholar in class, a beast on the basketball court, and lyricist with the mic. It was here where I cut my teeth on being under the scrutinizing eyes of many.
So I graduated Ambassador of the John Hope’s graduating class of Spring 2003 and I was well on my way to begin my life as an adult. I started my first day of college at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana with an ill rhyme in my dorm room after classes. After my freshman year at the University I returned to college the following semester but, at a different school that was of way less tuition. I had a beautiful baby boy and family to provide for. But, the cut down on the fast pace of the University helped me to stay grounded so I could concentrate on family and music. My concentration level peaked when I spent close to three thousand dollars on a studio for me to further my musical talents.
Now not only do I write songs, but I do the dirty work too. I am the engineer, producer, and the director of my projects. Things are a lot better now than they used to be when we were in my man Cause 1’s basement recording on tapes. These days Jo Blak, Cause 1, Eddie B-rock, Nonchalant, and I are lacing beats for Hi-Tek, Zack Katz, Jonathan Rotem, and even a Dr. Dre exclusive. I keep it thorough with my man one hundred grand Really Doe of G.O.O.D. music since we used to be slaving in the Lark together for a quick buck and now we destined for big bucks. But, only time will tell. FranC Grimes and Dollars 1ST believe in proper preparation preventing poor performance with the utmost urgency.
