Being 'Dad', acoustic guitar, singing (dorkyoke or whatever), working out, giving bad advice on the Internet, attending live theatre, tent camping, vegetarian cuisine, recycling, parks (especially someplace pretty where you might just see a dolphin nuzzle a squirrel), Coast to Coast AM, stamp licking but not collecting, chocolate, Bing cherries, salad bars, chocolate, peeing outside, walking on curbs, WiFi, Rockets basketball, writing
On this site would like to meet:
* local folks interested in similar music, maybe to hit concerts, maybe to play (I'm a mediocre guitar player but make it for it by being an uninspiring singer)
* fellow adoptees who wanna blame, complain, and cry
* a successful time traveler who just got bored with it all
* women who can't beat me on a seesaw
Music means a lot, so as far as famous people go, my answer would be mostly singer/songwriters I am amazed by, foremost Ryan Adams.Adam Duritz would be cool too, interesting to talk to and it'd be sweet to test his body fat with calipers.
Would sorta like to be within 5 feet of Jewel too, just to make sure she's real. I'd like to cultivate some sort of symbiotic relationship with her, where I'd receive nourishment from fishing things out of her teeth.
Favorites include Old 97s, Counting Crows, Ryan Adams (Whiskeytown too), Eagles, my main man John Mellencamp and Lucinda Williams. Other artists I like a lot are Jack Johnson, Wilco, Billy Joel, John Mayer, Damien Rice, Brett Dennen, Jewel, Everclear, Son Volt and many others. There's a lot of Americana in there.
In the past, I've been addicted to the Beastie Boys, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Public Enemy.
I like old school rap, classical, some jazz, most everything. But 'Buzz' music can get on my nerves with all the pain and screaming, get over it, find a therapist or a gun and just stop. An example would be Linkin Park who I think is maybe the worst band ever. I don't try listening to much rap anymore either, but I like Kid Rock and Eminem. The rap radio stations are awful, it's a shame the way things have evolved, not the way I woulda thought 20 years ago.
I like movies alright, but miss a lot actually. I've got better things to do, like updating my candle usage spreadsheet. Some favorites are Eternal Sunshine, American Psycho, Il Postino, Crash, Sideways, 40-Year Old Virgin, Office Space, Red Violin, American Beauty, Shawshank Redemption, Vanilla Sky, Anchorman, Old School, Talledega Nights, Contact, The Weatherman
Don't watch much TV, really just The Simpsons, Animal Planet and Rockets games. Used to love the X-Files a LOT. Was a little sad to see Arrested Development go under cause it was so damn clever. I started to build a picket sign then realized I hardly ever watched the show, and didn't exactly know how to build such a sign.
The Happiness Hypothesis, Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, The Evolution of Desire, 1984, Animal Farm, Wuthering Heights, Confederacy of Dunces, Uncle Tom's Cabin, Hop on Pop
