I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm not retarded or mentally challenged. There, now that that stereotype is out of the way, only 9,999 more to go ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------- I have a physical illness called, Muscular Dystrophy. It's a disease that slowly eats away your muscles over time. It's not contagious and theres no cure. Millions of people in this country alone have it, yet it affects each individual differently. For me, theres 3 main, obvious physical affects. The wheelchair, the weakened facial expressions [I'm a great eye roller though lol], and the respirator. I really have no physical pain, its more mental and emotional pain BUT thats only when and how I choose to allow those feelings to exist. ------------------------------------------------------------ --- In the last few years, I've been told by various people I should tell my story, get it out there or even write a book. I'm told my personality and life experiences conflicts with someone who has a physical illness. So rather than feeling overwhelmed and writing a whole book, I thought I would start off here and mainly in Blogs [READ THE BLOGS FOR MORE DETAILED INFORMATION]. And then maybe eventually I can put it all in a book. I'm also hoping that those who frequent this page will give me feedback, questions, and constructive criticism to help make this process more interesting and successful ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ -- And as this is mostly meant for informative purposes, I will be true to myself and keep my personality in it. Meaning honesty, humor, sarcasm and no sugar coating B.S. will all be involved. I've always said Im not just a disease, surely its a part of my life, especially at this point but its not all of who I am. I usually try and distract everything and everyone away from my illness and its affects. So this is a big step for me. I have various reasons for sharing so much of me. To help family and friends of other Ill-stricken people. To inform Medical Scientists, Researchers, Doctors, Therapists, Nurses, Caregivers, Teachers, Professors and Alternative Medicine Enthusiasts. To help others in similar situations. ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------- And to break a few stereotypes and preconceived notions that you healthier, nonchalant people may have. ------------------------------------------------------- Here's some visuals of the Progression of the Disease
