KarmaDeva

A diamond shining in the rain

About Me

"Yummy, vibrant, delightful."
Julianne Regan, All About Eve

"A very good band, highly tipped for the top."
Natasha's Bat Cave, totalrock.com

"A unique and addictive band."
Kaleidoscope Magazine

"Karmadeva are distinctive, original and dangerously good"

MercuryMoon Magazine

A cool, unforgiving urgency combines with post punk – though funkier than that usually dares to be – to create the unique sound of KarmaDeva.

KD are fronted by the enigmatic and unpredictable JJ Stanness, whose prom dress-and-bunches sweetness are streaked with a darkness betraying her former life as a mordantly satirical writer. Fans have likened her voice to Patti Smith and whilst they share a smokily compelling penetration, JJ reveals her individuality with seductive, soaring and at times touchingly vulnerable vocals.

KarmaDeva have exploded onto the UK scene, their powerful stage presence captivating audiences, drawing them into the excitement and dark poetic melancholy of their songs. This is a band with real depth and resonance, whose vivid and lyrical imagery of love, longing and redemption seduce your consciousness, hook you in, and take up residence.

Under the leadership of core members singer-songwriter JJ Stanness , bassist Pete Stanness and drummer Gav Loynes the current live line up is completed by guitarist Ed Parker

They have shared the stage with an eclectic mix of bands including The Avengers, Ten Years After, Lena Lovich, Echobelly, In The Nursery, Caravan, The Damned, and the legendary Arthur Lee and Love.

A limited edition vinyl single of the title track off their forthcoming album “FEED YOUR SOUL” will be released in Germany, Austria & Switzerland and available as a worldwide download on May 30th 2008. The Album, recorded in part at Real World, Peter Gabriels recording studios in the UK, will be released in Germany, Austria & Switzerland on August 16th 2008.

Distinctive and wonderfully original they are currently sweeping across the country like a brooding electric storm full of grace and power.

Sounds Like:

"Spearheaded by the superb vocals of lead singer Jane Stanness. The band create an innovative sound which is both exciting and instantly appreciable. Jane’s stage presence is matched by her hauntingly graceful voice and depth is provided by a mixture of subtle guitar licks and a tasteful rhythm section. Through a mixture of P. J. Harvey style vocals, interesting chord progressions and ghostly lead guitar fills, KarmaDeva are a unique band with a powerful sound and an array of eclectic songs with an unusually epic quality."
Decode Magazine

"Unique, balsy with powerful vocals."
Carling Academy

"It becomes instantly apparent how strong and charismatic their Patti Smith-esque vocalist is. The band display an affinity with U2, Flea and Mars Volta. With the evocative "Dark Days", these odd components strike a cohesive balance."
Venue Magazine

"All about Eve on Crystal Meth."
The Louisiana, Bristol

"Folky without being twee, heavy without being metal. Siouxsie Sioux meets P. J. Harvey, watch out here comes KarmaDeva."
The Joiners, Southampton.

"An absolutely brilliant live band.
Newport City Live Arena

"After seeing KarmaDeva I have had to re-arrange my list of all time favourite female singer-songwriters to include Jane Stanness. The bands brand of no-nonsense rock/pop delivered straight from the heart was an absolute breath of fresh air. This music needs no hype. Listen up good!"
