About Me

As a kid he spent hours in front of the radio and after blowing his limited pocket money on tapes, recorded the hottest shit of the 1980s on IECII/TYPE II POSITION CHROME. Music was and still is the basic nourishment for Monophonic.
Monophonics first vigorous impulse triggered by music surfaced in the early 1980s, when Kurtis Blow, Trouble Funk, Blowfly, Grandmaster Flash and Fat Boys became the heroes of his early tapes. At this time, music served as the acoustic stimulus for his quest of finding the perfect shape and swing of his tags. His increasing love for Rap music fed his growing fascination of the HipHop culture in general and for one of the five(!) disciplines (don..t forget the beat box) in particular. The scent of aerosol and the gentle clacking of the mixing ball in quiet nights became Monophonics constant companions while spraying his personal expression to create colourful spots in a city as (sometimes very) grey as Hamburg.
When the first wave of British Breakbeat productions hit the German shores in 1991/92 and the records were shipped down the River Elbe into his hometown, Monophonic couldnt evade the magnetic attraction of this rough and uncompromising variety of electronic music. Acts like Hardnoise, Silver Bullet, Hijack and London Posse had a major impact on his determination to play a more active role in the world of sound. Soon after, he put together his first cutnpaste tapes with a double cassette player which nourished his heartfelt aspiration to dedicate himself to music. His first DJ gig in a rotten factory kindled his ongoing deep passion for music which has been the propelling force in Monophonics life until today.
For the past nine years, Monophonic has been spinning vinyl at the wheels of steel. In his hometown, his DJ activities at locations like ROTE FLORA, BASEMENT, LOUNGE, TEMPELHOF and MOJO were steady and important joints of the local crowd. His weekly Drum..n..Bass mix show on Radio NRJ allowed him to present his skills and knowledge to a much wider audience, which led to numerous away games all over Germany and paved the way for gigs on an international level.
