Wizard's Mum & Dad

Laird & Lady of Glencairn

About Me

Wizard’s dad was introduced to music & dance from a very early age, as his parents both played their own unique version of the piano. He was introduced to dance, being forced to waltz with auntie Anne with the hat, along with various other relatives. These experiences led him to perform solo dance routine based on the Jagger strutt of which transformed itself in the 1970’s into various renditions of footwork from the musical ‘Saturday Night Fever’.When Wizard’s dad met Wizard’s mum his musical tastes were changed and he learnt sequence dancing, excelling at Aggado, Simon says, YMCA, etc., but he still retained his love of Rock & Roll. Although he did not truly excel at the piano, he’s rendition of Postman Pat, with one foot on the keyboard (Jerry Lee Lewis style), was something to be remembered.Wizards mum was also very fond of music and if it was not for last minute nerves might have been in the cast of ‘South Pacific. However she pursued her singing career and eventually teamed up with her friend to form the infamous ‘Poppies’.As the ‘Poppies’ were short lived, she jumped at the chance of joining Wizard’s dad; they performed at every opportunity, ‘Something Stupid’ being there theme song. It was around this time that by chance they met up with ‘Roi with an I’. Roi persuaded them that their talent lay more with dance, and introduced them to ‘Swing’. They perfected the West Coast version and demonstrated at every opportunity.Wizard’s mum & dad however still pined for the Elvis Rock & Roll years and therefore it was inevitable that this was where their talent truly lay. It was not long before they were travelling the world entertaining all that stumbled across them. Not satisfied with one style they went on to perfect the Salsa and also returned to Wizard’s dads first dance ‘The Waltz’.Always a couple at the very edge they amazed Deekline & Wizard with their Salsa version of the D&W remix of ‘My My My’ and their Rumba to ‘Truth is a lie’.Wizard's mum & dad recently won the Princess Ballroom Blitz competition in Alaska (July 2007). From a potential of 1900 entries, they competed with the other finalists in two sections (Waltz & Cha Cha), before completing their speciality dance (Rock & Roll). If you think Deekline & Wizard are cool, check out Wizard’s Mum & Dad.
