I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I love (and seriously miss) the ocean, and I love it when it rains. Fall is my favorite season – and I’m not too fond of Spring. I love Twizzlers and guacamole (not together), and I eat vegan and vegetarian foods because I think they taste good - but I still eat meat. My family is more important to me than anything – and I love taking my Grandma to church on Sunday. I enjoy being alone as much as I like being with people...and it’s probably more like 60/40. I’m as conservative as I am liberal, I love to work hard - and I love to relax when the work is done. I think being mean is easier than being nice, but I’ve always liked a challenge, so I tend to be nice. Bigotry and apathy are about the only things that really offend me...and I'll be the first to let you know if I'm offended. I often wish I had been born with a button I could push that would force me to stop talking – but I’m passionate about the things and people that I do and don’t like, and I stand by my convictions. I love a good heated discussion (I usually learn the most from those) and people who are capable of agreeing to disagree. I'm a total klutz, but I do terrificly in a pair of four-inch heels (go figure). I love music and movies, but I have no retention for details such as album/song/band member names – same goes for actors, directors, and all that junk – I just remember that I enjoyed it/them. I don’t regret much about my past because it’s made me who I am today...and the person I am today is pretty all right...though I’m fully aware of my faults and I'm always working on’em.
Oh yeah, once upon a time sometime told me I looked “like an Emily – a nice, quiet, plain girl.” So I mounted her head on a spike to prove a point... (Not really – I’m not capable of random acts of violence).
I don't know what the f happened to my Pac-Man. Dammit...

My Interests

Writing with a purpose, photography, dancing, getting dressed up...or getting dirt under my nails...road trips/travel of any kind, laughing my ass off with my friends and family, cooking, listening to music, the theatre, video games (I just can’t help myself), board games, card games, remodeling/redecorating, boating, camping, hiking, biking...whatever – I’ll try anything once.

I'd like to meet:

Music:

Jack Johnson, Grateful Dead, Regina Spektor, SARAH CRAM, BB King, Tori Amos, Beastie Boys, Patsy Cline, PJ Harvey, Soul Coughing, DR. Z'S EXPERIMENT, Of Montreal, Fountains of Wayne, Iron and Wine, MATTHEW MAYBANKS, Ben Harper, Joni Mitchell, PUBLIC PROPERTY,Sublime, Billy Joel, Billie Holiday, Billy Idol, HOMEMADE HEADTRIP, Rage Against the Machine, The Flaming Lips, DEATH SHIPS, Taj Mahal, Blondie, Johnny Cash, Morcheeba, Weezer, BENT SCEPTERS, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr., REM, Nina Simone, DIPLOMATS OF SOLID SOUND, Galactic, Widespread, George Clinton and the PFunks, most of the 80’s (sans Phil Collins and Sammy Hagar...I HATE Sammy Hagar), Van Morrison, THE SPECTACLES, Thelonius Monk, Herbie Hancock, John Lee Hooker, the Pixies, Guster, Goldfinger, EVERWONDER, the Beatles, Mos Def, Foo Fighters, Turin Brakes, Steely Dan. And, yes, I like house music. A lot.

Movies:

In no particular order, and hardly all inclusive...as are the rest of these lists...: Stranger Than Fiction, Big Fish, Kill Bill V1&2, Heathers, Labyrinth, A Mighty Wind, Run Lola Run, Sliding Doors, Godfather 1&2, Real Genius, Usual Suspects, cheesy action flix (JCVanDamme - stop laughing), cheesy horror flix (People Under the Stairs), Aliens, Better Off Dead, Grosse Point Blank, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Garden State, Edward Scissorhands, My Cousin Vinny, KidsIntheHall Brain Candy, Monty Python, The House of Yes, Love Actually, almost anything Woody Allen (and I got to meet him in New York!! Yes, he’s creepy...but he can write), Hustle-n-Flow, The Jerk, Hudsucker Proxy - oh, and the Brave Little Toaster.

Television:

Television is furniture, but if I must...there's Family Guy, Simpsons, Futurama, Real Time w/Bill Maher, Scrubs, Sopranos (though I'm about to give up on them), Six Feet Under (who knew when a good show should end), reruns of Cheers, Friends, Taxi, Golden Girls (shut it), and ATHF - and is anyone else happy that Pee-Wee's Playhouse is back on?

Books:

Anything Christopher Moore, Tom Robbins, Kurt Vonnegut, Augusten Burroughs, George Orwell, O. Henry...most the classics (Count of Monte Cristo, Huck Finn, Shakespeare, et al.)...this could be the longest list of them all if I tried. And I don’t know what I’d do without my New Yorker. My score on The Beloved Literary Character Test :

Nate the Great!
(Congratulations, you're...)

You're the eponymous hero of the Marjorie Weinman Sharmat series! Possessed of a sterling intellect, investigative ability, yet a reasonable degree of calmness and tact, you're the literary hero we all aspire to be. Good job!

Heroes:

My mother, my grandparents, and anyone who makes an effort over doing nothing at all. Boo to that.

Give ME a hard time for smokin', will ya? Well then...

Yes, I'm a smoker.  We're the new social lepers - ain't it grand?  Anymore, people actually seem to get off on giving smokers a hard time...into making them out to be one of the real problem...
