BJÖRN is the product of two things; me getting bored with playing in bands and the fact that I built my own studio.
I have a history as a guitar player in various pop groups. The last one, Speaker, released two albums in the late nineties and was semi-successful in Scandinavia. After we split up I kept on making music despite the fact I didnt have a forum for it, but compared to my previous songs the new material started to sound a bit different. I had discovered new types of music, and this saw my influences now stretch from pop and reggae to electronica and clubmusic. This had an effect on my way of songwriting. It was more fun and challenging to start off with a beat and then build the song around that, rather than starting off with the guitar as I used to do. Now I also had a location and the equipment to experiment with my ideas and record them.
After having to compromise in bands for a long time it was a relief to be able to make music just the way I wanted it to sound. This also meant I didnt necessarily have to sing on all the tracks. I contacted singers I liked and when I was lucky they liked what they heard and contributed to the songs.
The BJÖRN project gradually took shape and, after a while, I had a bunch of songs on the computer. But I felt it wasnt enough . I wanted the songs to be released, so a meeting was set up with the eminent label Family Tree Music and they liked what they heard. BJÖRN was signed to the label and "Son Of A Gun" became the first single, and an album is currently in the pipeline.
BJÖRN is a combination of beats and melodies. Its about understanding the rhythm, about moving your feet. Enjoy!
