About Me

..Someone recently told me he liked my concise, matter-of-fact self-description, So, of course, I've changed it to the Tolstoy-esque diatribe that follows. (Apparently, I have a thing for lists and possibly a relationship on the side with hyphens). So, about me...
I like music; I've been to several live shows. So far I've seen Eric Clapton, Live, Rush, Deftones, The Apples in Stereo, Tori Amos, B.B. King, Black Label Society/Zakk Wylde, Henry Rollins, Flaw, Korn, Staind, Three Doors Down, Rob Zombie, Tool, Static X, Black Sabbath (with Ozzy), 311, Alien Ant Farm, Moby, The Strokes, Linkin Park, Bloodhound Gang, Three Dog Night, Foo Fighters, Green Day, Mudvayne, Cypress Hill, Marilyn Manson, and Lost Prophets...I'm quite sure there are more. I used to live in south Florida and they had a lot of shows down there. The one band I missed out on and regret the most is Morphine.
Other than that, there's the typical stuff. I work in IT, which has been fun. Not necessarily because of the work, though I do enjoy it, but because I can pick up contracts and that has allowed me to travel over most of the country. In a little over a decade I've worked in Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Maine, Minnesota, North Carolina, California, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Mississippi and Tennessee. I've driven over most of the rest of the country in between, only missing out on the Dakotas and a couple of those tiny states in the Northeast. Oh, and Kansas, but that's not so much "missed" as it is "avoided".
I wasn't always in IT, of course, I've also worked retail, waited tables, cleaned and medicated animals, bought books, sold diamonds, been a soldier, a professional actor, a volunteer fire fighter, a street sweeper, cattle wrangler, repo man, movie usher, private investigator and a couple of other things I'm probably forgetting, basically whatever paid the bills. I am also a partner in a small web business.
For fun, I play disc golf when I can, I've played at the oldest course in the country and the newest (at least the newest that week; they were still putting up the baskets). I also like to get out and drive my car or ride my motorcycle, especially when I live in an area with twisty mountain roads and sweeping vistas.
I enjoy a good book, though what I read is more mental masturbation than fine literature. Mostly it's whatever fantasy, science fiction or straight fiction that catches my eye. I also read a lot of those things-you-didn't-know-about-history type books. I heartily recommend Benjamin Franklin's Autobiography, it's a fascinating, personal look at the time just before and just after the Revolutionary War written by someone intimately involved with what happened.
I've got some family around. I get along better with my father than my mother. I have one brother, he and his wife are going to have a child soon, they just found out it's a girl, so I guess I'll be an aunt (sorry, old joke, I know). I'm quite sure I will make an excellent example for them to use when trying to keep her on the straight and narrow.
