Hi, I am Valentin. I am a goofball, funny kid, smart-ass, smart period, and maybe the most amazing person you will meet. At least I'd like to tihnk so.
Read up or just click on the pictures :) You know you want to!
The Past:I was born and raised in sofia, bulgaria. it is a great place to visit and an interesting place to live in :) I would encourage you to visit someday. I am quite proud of my bulgariann-ness as it comes with lots of perks: accent, traditions, namedays, and various fun/relevant proverbs. i would be the one telling you to not give away your first bite or put your bag on the floor. why? you'll have to ask me :)
i moved to arizona ( www.arizonaguide.com ) in 1999 along with my family. graduated from high school and went to arizona state university ( www.asu.edu ). the initial bitterness of going to the local school because harvard and stanford rejected me upon waitlisting me was replaced with a (at times, unreasonable) satisfaction with the school and passion for telling others how great it is. meeting a great bunch of people, making true friends traveling, staying involved and busy in class sure had something to do with it. i realized asu is a unique school, and i would have not been able to get an experience even close to the one i've had anywhere else
i majored in accounting and computer systems, after a brief delusional period of thinking i'd make a good computer scientist. i love the business school, and so does the rest of the country, by virtue of placing it high up in the national rankings. i did not mind the amount of scholarships i got, either. Thanks to the likes of Mr. Tom Lewis ( www.twlewis.com ) and professors Huizingh and Mumford, I was able to enjoy school without having to worry about paying tuition. After graduating from undergrad, I went on to complete my masters in accountancy and information systems, at asu of course.
the masters program was tough. but it was also a ton of fun, and i was fortunate to have met a plenty of great people and future colleagues. we all knew this would be our last chance to party it up before the auditing profession took over our lives, and we made sure we made good use of our time! what a sociable bunch :-)
with graduation came a lot of changes. full time work (ew), final summer off (ew), and a move away from what i'd grown to call home for the last eight years.
The Present:I moved to new york city in september 2007. the move could not have gone any smoother. after having interned here for a summer, i was well aware of the city and what it has to offer. i was also proficient in its logistics and the locations of things. it did not hurt having a job offer either. and best of all, i ended up with a roommate i know well and trust fully :)
Katie and i had lived in tempe for our final two years of undergrad. she moved away upon graduation to work for an architecture firm. she and her roommate, another asu girl, found this amazing apartment in hells kitchen and lived in it for a year. steph had to bring her dog out and subsequently mve out of the apartment... which worked out for me as i simly took over the lease. i had secured the two important thingss about the move - a job and a place. an awesome place at that!
i work as an informaiton systems auditor with KPMG ( www.us.kpmg.com ), one of the world's largest accounting firms. if you are wondering what the hell an auditor is, here is a quick blurb:
Many companies (think of the home depot, microsoft, pepsi, t-mobile) have to issue financial statements in which they say how much money they've made in sales, spent on goods and ultimately, turned into profits. the auditors go into the companies and verify if those numbers are correct - as an independent check, to make sure that those numbers are indeed the real sales, expenses, and so on. the IT auditors like me check if the computer systems used are secure so that no random people can access or change the financial data... basically, we say if the numbers produced the computers capture all the financial information correctly. Makes sense? I hope more so than before :)
so, kpmg... good times. i am happy to reunite with a lot of the friends i made while interning here and make more friends among the 2600 people working int he new york office. i know work will take over much of my life, but i will try to remain sane :)
otherwise, i am making the best of my time int he city. going out, seeing old friends, making new ones, and best of all, hosting AZ and other friends when in town! i am excited to have friends over, so if you want to come... get in touch haha
i miss arizona, especially come winter. there aren't many places where you can wear flip flops in december, enjoy blue skies year round, and lay by the pool and watch the palm trees. i miss the firends and boyfriend so i make it a point to visit back every so often. be excited!
the family moved to seattle (with dimo's exception) so i guess that's another major change too. gots to make more friends i suppose :) no biggie
The Future:we'll see haha. through kpmg, i hope to get a very good amount of traveling under my belt. as a global firm, i will later on have the opportunity to work in another office abroad... say, europe or asia... anywhere... which is not too bad :)
i am planning on getting my CPA to be a certified nerd... because the masters in accounting won't be enough, ha. this will help me to one day open an accounting firm of my own, if kpmg doesn't work out. i think it would be cool to do nonprofit work and help the organizations take their finances under control... after all, they are better spent on programs and not on unnecessary/inefficient processes :)
i aspire to work out, volunteer for habitat for humanity, travel the world, and have a healthy personal life with functional relationships with friends and family. let's hope this continues being the reality :)
Likes:I like being random and impulsive, using lowercase and typing poorly. i love using my bulgarian charms to make friends and persuade people to get what i want :). I love traveling and am bummed out that for the first time in my life, i'd have to pay for airfare. i am still a big airline brat at heart though, and anything airline is pretty fascinating to me. that's what you get for having a family in the industry. maybe i will become the cfo of an airline someday :) i've been on four continents and i'd love to expand my 'coverage'. any takers? I am always up for a trip! you have a four-day weekend in madrid? i'm on. london for a day? sign me up.
i like my friends and my brother (Well the rest of the family too). he is a cool kid, and we actually get along now that we don't live together, ha. i like asu and sunnyslope high school, and i like helping the schools in any way i can!
i also love to ski and roll in the snow on a snowboard, and now i am trying some lake sports... with poor success so far. I love side comments (like that one :)) and being around good people... the color green kics ass too
Dislikes:The usual. fakes, flakes, liars and assholes are not my favorite. i hate milk and jellyfish, i think they are gross :)
In ConclusionIf I have not bored you to death, you should say hi
