He has performed in various talent shows and made many radio station appearances as an emcee and, as a DJ, he's performed at many clubs, house parties, basketball tournaments, etc. Even one mixtape was released as a DJ and even though it was successful, having to choose between being a DJ (which he viewed more as a hobby) and an emcee (which he views as a career) he opted for the latter.Though he chose not to sign, he participated as an artist with Highwire records for a short period of time during which he has done numerous recordings and live performances. These performances include a show where he opened up for The Lox, The Lost Boys, Brand Nubians, and Peter Gunz & Lord Tariq, and received a very good crowd response. He has also appeared on the front page of the Metroland newspaper for an article about the label he was involved with.While at Highwire records, Cartel formed a close relationship with producer Tony Sturdivant. Together they formed Allhood which has a roster of artist from various backgrounds. With Vinny Cartel as lead artist and Sturdivant as producer Allhood promises to make an impact from all angles
