FRANCK KARTELL

Since the age of 6 years, Franck is surrounded by music and he learns to play piano during ten years. Discovering the house music in 1986, he involves in the electronic music. Five years later, he spent his first pay in the purchase of a synth. Then, he starts to buy equipment and some legendary machines as the Minimoog, the Korg MS 20, the sequencer SQ 10, the Juno 106 or the Jupiter 8. Some purely analogical sounds !
Franck starts to play live and he creates a techno radio broadcast in the West of France.
Then, his first maxis are released on techno/hard-teck labels under the pseudo of Blob. Vinyls collector, he listens to many different styles of music (disco, funk, house, techno, jazz, pop electro) but he's, after all, very much influenced by the 80s (new-wave, EBM, italo disco, electro et hip hop old school).
Here are the names of some groups or artists among his favourites : Kraftwerk, Telex, Grandmaster Flash, Yello, Yazoo, Paul Hardcastle, Front 242, Art of Noise...
In 2004, he sends a demo to Lab Insect that catches him immediately. A maxi follows on Elektrofon, "The Sound of the future Ep", with remixes by Millimetric (Goodlife) and Lab Insect. With very good reviews from the musical press (D-Side, Trax), the Ep is at once playlisted by The Hacker. The last release on Elektrofon of Franck is a retro-electro piece built to hit the dancefloor with a certain elegance. Strange melodies are grabbing you instantly and can't let you go away. Beware ! Soon, Black Montanas will release Franck Kartell’s latest EP : “Atomic Shelter”.
