"The Ponderance of Mus Musculus" Ducking under this basement ceiling we know as your floor, unable to fit through the door. He's pathetically hidden behind a couch covering only up to his knees. You can't hide him here. Proboscidean, pachyderm, plastered in mud. His grey, thick skin doesn't blend in with the wall paper, And your attempts to hide him under bed sheets are laughable, at best. A rope, a tree, and too many memories, of failure. Why doesn't he leave? Why doesnt he just leave? He could easily crash throughthe door, and frame, and windowpane. Easily (if he believed)... Imagine him stomping down 12th avenue, making that noise he makes when we poke him with things. Picture the chaos- Gridlock-transport trucks jackknifed- Cars strewn nonsensically or crushed into power poles- his feet mashing the roofs of honda civics, and though he hears at infrasound, He'd trumpet like a big band's horn section. Those close by would watch in awe- fingers in their ears. But this is only my fantasy. He lives in his memories. That goddamned rope That goddamned tree. He seemed so unhappy, even we tried to put him out of his misery. And you know how words roll off his back like sheets of water from spring monsoons. The point of a poisoned syringe can't penetrate any more than harsh words or talk of freedom. if he doesn't believe, he doesn't believe.
