Matt Mason is a young aspiring country music singer and songwriter with an outlaw edge. His sound and stage presence combine aspects of traditional country with a bit of rock & roll attitude. Matt is not one to conform to popular sound or style. He has a style all to his own, and that style is one that definitely adheres to country music's honky-tonk roots. His influences include some of the old outlaws like Waylon and Willie, Haggard, and Hank Jr. Matt also enjoys a little George Jones and a lot of Johnny Cash every now and then. A record from Kid Rock, Shooter Jennings, Alan Jackson or George Strait can be heard from his CD player at any given time as well.Mason was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, where he learned how to play guitar by the time he was eleven. Matt's earliest musical influences originate from gospel music and Elvis Presley. He and his family attended a small church where a kind man taught Matt how to pick the cords on his first guitar. That was all it took for Matt to become hooked. From that day on, he would practice guitar and singing for hours upon end in his bedroom. At this time in Matt's endeavors, Elvis, The King, was always coming out of his bedroom speakers.Matt's voice really began to develop in his mid-high school years, and that's when he started to get more serious about trying to make it as a singer someday. His first performance was over a spring break trip down in Southern Florida. Matt talked his dad into allowing him to enter a talent show one night. The crowd's reaction was more pleasing than Matt (and especially Matt's dad) had anticipated. That night fueled Matt's desire that much more and really can be considered the catalyst that has led Matt to where he's come thus far. At age sixteen, Matt had the pleasure of opening for The Charlie Daniels Band at the Eastern States Exposition. He has also opened for Vern Gosden, Mel McDaniel, Jennifer Hanson, and Brian McComas at various shows. After graduating high school in Indiana, Matt packed up and moved down to Nashville, TN in the early spring of 2005. Now age nineteen, Matt can be heard playing most nights somewhere on Broadway. He quickly earned a gig at the World Famous Tootsie's Orchid Lounge after moving to Nashville, and plays there almost every daycurrently singing and standing in the same places where many before him have made it big. Matt Mason is chasing the dream.Myspace Backgrounds
