Politics, Loud, guitar-driven rock, the spoken word, the written word, the word, images, words vs. images, spontaneous vs. planned utterances, socially-conscious rap, the tabla, rhythm, the blues, harmony, melody and/or the lack there of, prosody and cadence, literature, biochemistry, physics, art, life, anything, everything, how about you?.
My friend Eli once said, "you should write what you want down on a piece of paper as accurately and succinctly as possible. Then, you should put it away and not look at it for a year. Writing things down, creating a graphic record of what is quite possibly just a nebulous idea reminds you that what you desire is possible." Eli then took a drag off her cigarette and leaned against the wall. "But, be careful what you wish for because your unconscious is a very powerful thing and can manifest even the most ridiculous requests."
Every time I think about that and try to write something down I come up with a compendium of arbitrary features that in the end just serve as empty constructs. A list of what instead of a list of who. I'd like to meet readers, writers, thinkers, artists, singers, construction workers, economists, managers, waiters and someone who can balance out my Earth element. And, with the exception of the last one all those things describe what someone does with their time. None of them really speak to the qualities that make a person a person. So, who would I like to meet? Eh, I'm not sure that really matters. Right now, I'm not interested in the shadow play , I am interested in the players.
