D.J. Africa was born Luis Illescas in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He grew up in Miami where he was first introduced to spinning at the age of 13. The name Africa comes from his love of music. The roots of all types of music originated from Africa and Luis wanted his name to represent these roots and his love for the music. He wanted to bring a new style of music to the people. D.J. Africa's fame is not limited to Miami. He has played in clubs all over the world. He has toured in New York, Los Angeles, Santo Domingo, and Puerto Rico. He has done mixes & remixes for the top artists in the Latin and hip hop industry. He has shared the stage with local artists as well as world famous artists such as P.Diddy, Pharrel Williams, Pequeno Juan a.k.a Lil Jon, Pitbull, Tono Rosario, Hector "El Father", Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Baby Rasta, Grupo Mania, Vico C., Tego Calderon. Dj Africa was also the first to introduce Grupo Aventura to Miami by Playing "Cuando Volveras" & "Obsecion" on his mix shows on 95.7 "El Zol 95" and also the first DJ to play the smash hit "CULO" by Pitbull on an all Latin radio station! it was a HIT. Presently, D.J. Africa is the Official dj for The "Enrique Santos y Joe Ferrero " Mornig show. He is also the resident DJ for the Hottest Latin Night Club in MIAMI "Bongo's Cuban Cafe" own by Gloria & Emilio Estefan.
