Music: singing, playing and listening. At this point, I don't have a band, just a good ear, quick hands and a strong voice. I took a break from my music, for too many years, to be a lawyer. Now I have entered a life space where I can integrate my love of music with my proclivities for planning and analysis.HeartSpace: Along music, meditation and dance are of paramount importance. Maybe for me they are aspects of the same thing. I have accepted my calling as a healer and a teacher. I think we all have these callings in one form or another. I have strong interest in traditional and alternative medicines, but I have discovered that music can be a great healing tool for me.Itchy Feet: I love to travel and have spent much of my travel time in Asia, which is why I am living here now. Even when living in the US, I travel a lot and sometimes feel compelled to move to different parts of the same city.Entrepreneurship: After years of banging my head against the proverbial wall. I realized that my and my past employers' frustration is due to my strong entreprenurial tendencies. As a lawyer, I have helped many entrepreneurs start, structure or refine their business. Now it's time to bring the healing home.Friendship: I love people and am energized by groups. I count myself fortunate and wealthy for the friends I have made over the years. I also count myself lucky for the experiences where I learned how to discern true friends from Velveeta!
Beings with open minds and open hearts, who understand the value of balancing giving and receiving and who greet themselves and the world around them with tolerance and acceptance. If you qualify, it definitely means you are not afraid to smile:)
Polyphonic and Polysonic:I have eclectic tastes; from Bach to Blues. Since my predominant cultural influence comes from my African-American roots, I love, love, love gospel music (though I am more Buddhist than Christian). I appreciate good music from all around the world and many of my favorite musicians/singers do not perform in English. Recently, my personal support network, composed of my best friend and her husband (the coolest man I've met), has introduced me to Psychedelic Trance music. I must admit I'm hooked. I feel compelled to contribute to the pool of sonic evolution. So, if I get my hands on a keyboard, watchout.....!
Yes, I'm a Cinephile (is that the right word?). I could happily spend an afternoon by myself in a dark cold movie theatre (and have done it many times). Since I am now living in a tropical paradise where the American or English or French films arrive two years after their first run, I live in DVD world. Not quite the same as the cinema experience, but there's a lot to be said for having environmental control. I have most recently been inspired by "Breakfast on Pluto" and "Memoirs of a Geisha." I won't say anything about them, since I'm sure this says something about me.
Oy! Where do I begin? As a child of the 70s my world view is shaped by this medium. But, as an adult of the New Millenium I recognize the use of "Sell-A-Vision" a great brain robbery! Imaginations are being stolen everyday. I really don't like broadcasts. If there is a show that I am interested in, I get the DVD series. I had high hopes when they invented TiVo, but the horned beings that rule advertising are always quick to make sure that we the public have no mental space to ourselves. I think that there's an unspoken conspiracy between schools and advertising execs in the US. First, the teachers don't let the kids relax with mental journeys (daydreaming). Instead, the teachers Snap*!* them out of the clouds or trees, back into the climate controlled room, lit by humming white tubes. Then the kids go home to relax and do their mental wandering with images from the box, staring at a screen that is a revolving array of attempts to sell them products or ideas. Or, in todays generation they do their mental wandering with video games. hand-eye coordination, my a&&! It's more like "product placement" and tendency conditioning. (No offense to gamers out there, but, like TV, gaming can be and has been used as a tool of manipulation or persuasion).
As you can see from a few of my "heroes," I like to read. I'm a weird mix of science fiction (forgot to give props to Philip K. Dick), mystery, self-help, finance and spiritual/new age books. At this point, my book belly is so full, I can't make any suggestions.
Sheroes and Heroes: I am inspired by people who have passed and everyday people who are passersby. Here's a quick, but non-exhaustive, list. My father, Frederick Douglass, Madame CJ Walker, Nikola Tesla, Edgar Cayce, Octavia E. Butler, Frank Herbert, Herman Hesse, Johann Sebastian Bach, Frank Lloyd Wright, Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Josephine Baker, Ursula Rucker.....
