Many songs and ideas have come and gone as I strived to achieve my particular vision for the most appealing sound. To me, acoustic guitar is the most pure source of sound, melodies and tone. But here's the challenge: how do you keep the listeners attention, without being extremely "out there", and still reasonably commercial, with only one instrument? The product of my trying to figure this all out is Rehab for Egos!I wanted to create a sound that would cut through the barriers of defined trends and genres and still be accessible to any type of a listener. But how do you achieve that?. Acoustic guitar was the answer. It has no defining characteristics and doesn't belong to one specific trend or period in time. In fact, most musicians of most genres own and play one. It is just a classic acoustic sound accessible to every and all genres.Every style of music, in my opinion, has an element that classifies it and its listener (rock has distorted guitars and heavy beats, hip-hop has the turntable, synthesized, beat oriented sound, so on and so forth) and, more often than not, a specific type of image. It's almost impossible not to copy or sound like someone out there, if your project has one of these characteristic elements. Since the acoustic guitar is so "cross-genre", it can't be categorized in the same way.I focused my attention on melodies, hooks and the "flow" of songs that sounded entertaining on an acoustic guitar. My lyrics were a process of saying what I wanted and using metaphors to make things clear, without being obvious enough to the point of shoving opinions down anyone's throat. After a long time of trying to achieve all this I am finally satisfied with my sound.I have recorded some acoustic songs at home and put "Cut Him to Pieces" and "Wasted" on to my "MySpace" site and the response has been great! Receiving anywhere from 100 to 400 hits a day and getting great feedback before I've even had a chance to finish the site!! Having wanted to record these song for a long time and thinking that the sound was finally "ripe", I went into the studio to record the 6 song EP that will come out late May or early Jun 2006.Acoustic guitar has a place in almost any genre and in almost any music collection. It's a classic tone, and like jeans, will never go out of style.Hope you enjoy it.Welcome, take a seat and listen.
