Once upon a time there was a little girl called Jo and she lived in a faraway place among flowers and trees and hedges and beautiful scenery. Her mother was singing, the birds were singing, the dogs and the cats and the chickens were singing, even her baby brother was singing. But you wouldn’t hear Jo. Jo was a quiet and awkward child, always falling over or getting tongue tied and often found herself on her own. But she discovered that whenever she felt sad or cross or lonely or just a bit bored, hitting the keys of a piano, or singing about it would magically make her feel better. However, she was sure that with so much music going on already, no-one would be interested to hear what she was singing, and if they did, that the magic would go. So she kept it to herself. One day she found out though, that someone had been listening in uninvited. They had heard her singing through a wall. She was cross and embarrassed at first but then she realised that she had been wrong. Sharing it hadn’t ruined anything. From then on Jo started to join in with the dogs and goats and cats and chickens and not only did they not complain at her off-key wailings, they invited her to form a folk band with them and went on to achieve some limited chart success in Norway.
